I have read several times to wait between a year and 18 months. But yesterday I went to a support group and we were told to wait between 2 and 2 1/2 years! Thats a huge difference!! I want to wait for a year after surgery because that is what I have been told several times! I havent had surgery yet, and am hoping to have it late Feb early March.

How long did you wait after gastric bypass to get pregnant? And did your baby come out ok? Thanks so much, I'm just so confused! And frustrated....

My surgeon recommended  18 months - 2 years. His criteria, you need to have lost most of your weight and have been at a stable weight for at least 6 months as well as having good lab results.

Good luck!

most doc's say 12-18 months...but your doctor will give you the go ahead when he feels your ready, which may be longer.

Getting pregnant on purpose before 12 months automatically puts you in the high risk department.

I wish you luck with your journey and hope you get the answers your looking for.

I got pregnant 3 months out- never accidents but wasn't planned and I am high risk, sop far so good but you really should wait so you are able to lose your weight and not worry/stress about if you are able to feed your baby!

My dr said 18 months.  I waited until I hit my goal weight which was at 15 months out....I'm 21 weeks pregnant and so far everything is going ok.

Hi there,
my surgeon said wait 12 to 18 months after surgery.  That being said I got pregnant at 10 months out of surgery.  It wasn't planned.  I had 15 pounds left to my personal goal weight.  My surgeon was ok with it when I told them.  They said I had lost most of the weight and I would be fine.  My baby was born fine, she was 8 pounds  11 oz.  No problems at all.  I was not in the high risk catagory either.
I don't know how much weight you need to lose but I would tell you to wait atleast 12 months before getting pregnant.  I lost the rest of my "window of opportunity" by getting pregnant when I did.  I gained 45 and lost 35.  And in the last year I had gained 20 pounds before getting pregnant again.  So here I am 35 pounds heavier than I was the last time getting pregnant.

good luck with surgery and TTCing when the time comes!
