Fearing Weight Gain

I recently found out that I was pregnant.. (It is a blessing however it was not planned or expected). I am only 16weeks but now find myself depressed because of the weight gain. I know that weight gain occurs during pregnancy but like most people on the site, we were all a size that we do not want to go back to. I had the VSG and lost 140 lb, my weight finally settled and I was happy with being 185lbs. When I visited the scale today, I gained 9 lbs and totally freaked. Started crying, did not want to eat, wanted to return to a liquid diet, I went through a lot of thoughts. I do know better but I can not seem to shake this thought and I feel myself falling into depression.
Can anyone relate and help me with this feeling?

A BABY IS NOT FAT.

I'm worried too, but I have to keep reminding myself that weight gained for the baby is NOT fat.  And please realize that you have to provide enough nutrients for the baby...DO NOT go to a liquid diet.  I'm no doctor but I'm pretty sure that's not healthy for a pregnant woman.

There's a thread I made on the DS board about my own worries; maybe it'll help you!

I think we all fear the weight gain. I know I did. I only gained about 14 pounds though and have lost it all and my baby girl is 5 weeks old now. With my 2 pregnancies before surgery I gained at least 60 with my 2 boys. I was so afraid I would gain that and more but I just ate healthy and moved around as much as docs would let me. Dont stress too much. Just eat right and exercise and everything will be fine. Relax and enjoy the baby!! :)

 Sweetheart,

After being on this board for almost 3 years, this is a question or statement I see AT LEAST 4-5 times a week.  You CANNOT help gaining weight when you are pregnant.  Now, that being said, you do not need to gain 50 or 60 pounds.  A normal pregnancy weight gain is anywhere between 25 to 30 pounds..anything beyond that is a true weight gain to your hiney (unless it is water, and then it is not).  When I was pregnant with my son I gained 12 pounds in 3 days...obviously not baby or fat...it was water.  That you cannot help.  You will know when it is water weight if it comes on so rapidly that it could not possibly be weight gain from food or..if your feet, ankles, hands, fingers, face, or toes swell...then you know it is water as well.

Bottom line is...it is unhealthy to put yourself on ANY kind of diet during a pregnancy.  Baby WILL take the nutrients it needs from you, whether there is enough left over for you or not, and in the end you will be very very sick.  Please just try to remember to eat reasonably...go to a nutritionist and get  a meal/calorie plan established, and try to follow it as best that you can.

Once you have baby, you can lose any excess weight.  The baby came out...your weight loss surgery has never gone away,,,so you are gonna do awesome :)

Good Luck!
