Need help HCG Experts - Update, possibly NOT a miscarriage!
Hi ladies, me again.....
I posted on Monday asking questions about hormonal issues and miscarriages. I had my HCG levels checked on 12/17 and they were around 7,000. I had my levels checked again 4 days later and was told they went down to around 4,000 and to expect a miscarriage (my second one in 6 months).
I went back to my doctor this past Wednesday (2 days after the low reading) to have my levels checked to make sure they were on their way back to 0. My doc emailed me the next day to tell me that my numbers didn't go down, they actually went up to slightly over 20,000. He had my levels checked again today (3 days later) and they were around 38,000.
So my levels didn't double this past time, but I've read online that once they get above 6,000 and you're in weeks 6 or 7 that the doubling time can take as long as 96 hours. I should be 7 complete weeks on Monday.
What are your thoughts? I'm thinking one of my first two blood checks were wrong. Either the first was never really that high (7,000) or the second was never really that low (4,000). Am I right though? Even though they are not doubling in 72 hours I shouldn't be overly concerned since I am above 6,000 and am past 6 weeks?
I honestly don't know what to think at this point. I spent almost 4 days thinking I was getting ready to miscarry and then I got the news that my levels spiked up. I'm assuming more bloodwork and an ultrasound are in my future.
Thank you so much ladies!

What a rough ride! I think you're right, one of those numbers wasn't right. Hopefully all is well and you're on your way up. I hope that you get checked again this week to help figure out whats really going on. Maybe they can do an ultrasound, especially since their bloodwork has been so wacky. I'd really push for one if I were you, and ask the doctor to explain whatever it is he sees. They definitely should be able to see something if you're almost 7 weeks, and I'd hope your doctor would want to put your mind at ease and make sure everything is ok. Here's hoping you just got a weird number or someone elses number! Good luck!

I am NOT a Dr. but I will tell you what happened during my last pregnancy...I was preg with twins and at 7weeks I started bleeding and my numbers dropped...they sent me for an ultrasound and the OB was preparing me for a D&C...She was sure I was miscarrying...well, I sort of was...I lost one baby, but the other was fine. They put me on progesterone and I had my levels run again and they kept climbing and ultrasound at 11 weeks and there was no more reminants of the second sac and baby. I went on to deliver a full term baby who is now 13 months old. So MAYBE that is what happened to you, you just didnt know there were 2. I was on fertility meds so had lots of U/s and blood work, otherwise they would have never know. They were actually able to see where both eggs were from in my right ovary and all. I was sad and relieved at the same time. EMOTIONAL ROLLERCOASTER is an understatement. Hang in there and God Bless.
I have no idea...but the numbers from the last few days sound fantastic...so I think it's good news. Tell the dr to get you an u/s just to confirm everything...tell him it's for your sanity's sake!
Sounds to me like I should be saying...ENJOY the rest of your pregnancy...and congratulations!
