I know this sounds horribly selfish and awful, but it makes me really, really sick, all day long. I take all my other bariatric vits, my iron, my fish oil, my vit c, d and calcium. If I continue taking those, could I just double up on my bariatric chewable multivitamin, and nix the prenatal? Please help!!!

I would def. call you OB and ask...but I don't take a prenatal, I take all my Bariatrci vitamins and for a prenatal I take 4 flinstones chewables a day...

I hope you are able to find a solution that works for you and baby!

If it's the one that has A as 100% betacarotene, then no worries to take 2x the dose rather than taking your prenate.

The reason docs want us to take prenates rather than regular multies because prenates contain vitamin A as beta carotene, which is not fetaltoxic in any dose.  Vitamin A in high doses as retinol palmitate or acetate in oil-forms can fetaltoxic and thus makes OBs wibble with fear --  OH!!!  THE FEAR!!  VITAMIN A IS SO SCARY!!!

No worries.

Have you tried taking it at night, then you don't have to feel awful (cause you'll be sleeping). Definately check with your OB though.

Ask your doctor and also try taking it at night.  I was really sick with my last pg after I'd take my prenatal and honestly some women get sick from the high dose of Iron in the prenatal (can make you nauseated or irritate your stomach).   It's also cuz you are newly pg and the hormones are raging, plus the iron might make it worse.

I don't think it sounds selfish at all.  I threw up the entire pregancy with Hannah not knowing it was the prenatals that was making me sick.

Now I'm just taking regular multi's and adding folic acid (plus the calicium that I have to take)   I have the band, so our requirements are different.

My OB had no problem with me not taking the prenatals.  I would let yours know and see what they suggest.

I forgot to add that my bariatric doc told me to have my OB do a blood test every 3 months, just to check my vitamin levels.   Doing that can make sure you are getting your vits in and you should be fine.  It's been fine for me both 2 times so far, one more to go in Feb, the baby comes in April, and then I do one again in June for my 2nd annual one since surgery.
