I have a crazy question/idea...

So someone brought to my attention yesterday something and it gave me a crazy idea.... sense I am having twins I have a very large chance that I am having a C- section. Someone asked me if I get one I should try and get a tummy tuck while they have me cut open due to my incision from the c-section has a chance of getting infected because of my large amount of skin hanging.  I am still 356 and I was just wondering if anyone has heard of this or getting this done? The more I think about it I doubt I am going to be able to get this done... hmm any info please help...? lol

thanks

Chrissy

I have heard of it happening. MAybe they can just remove some of the panni and save the actual muscle tightening for once you have gotten closer to goal - can't hurt to try right?!

Never heard of it being done and don't think you'd find anyone willing to do it. Especially with your size, (no offense, been there......was 450!) you still have much more to lose and you will most likely need MORE taken off later. Plus, if you want other children, it will be better to have them first, THEN get a tummy tuck. Not only can future children ruin a tummy tuck, but just ask a little friend of mine named Paula if being pregnant AND having had a tummy tuck is very comfortable. LOL

Plus, your uterus will still be shrinking and closing your stomach muscles with your still large uterus won't be something that's comfortable either. Even if you just did a panniculectomy (panni removal, just the extra skin without tightening of the stomach muscles) you still have the fact that you will have much more extra skin when you finish your weight loss.

So, I hate to tell you, although your idea would be great for someone like me who's probably having their last baby and is at goal, no Dr. would do it I'm afraid. The uterus thing alone is probably enough to deter them. You want your tummy as flat as possible before you attempt a tummy tuck and after childbirth is just not the time to do it. Maybe 6 months after, but I'd wait until you're done having kids and losing weight.

Novel idea though. And one that's passed through these boards many of times. If ever some woman could get a Dr. to agree to do it.........I think it would be a first! LOL

Unfortunately, I don't think that can be done.  You have higher risk of losing large amounts of blood during both procedures... and there is something to do with the flow of blood and the way the body heals in that area.  My OB did clean-up my previous c-section scars down there for me, so I would have multiple scar lines.  My previous scars were barely noticable and only looked like a flesh colored thin line.  But that was a minimal procedure... whereas they would be removing a large amount of flesh and the risk for infection would be higher... and you also would be recovering from pregnancy.  Too much for your body to handle.  Not to mention OB's don't usually do tummy tucks.

Nice try though... LOL  I wanted to coordinate my WLS with my c-section back in 2003 (when I got approved the first time while I was pregnant) ... but due to platelet levels and such the doctor said they can't do combo surgeries like that.  =)

Hi Allie,

Welcome back!  I did see you... but wasn't really doing any responding lately, because my in-laws were in town.  They left this morning.  I am still here... pregnant again... and for the final time.  I lurk a lot, and only post sometimes... definitely not daily.

Hope all is well with you.
Hugs

Awww!!! Do you know what it is yet? When are you due? Isn't funny that so many of us are still here, pregnant again? Were we pregnant at the same time? I can't remember. Noah is 3. Born on June 26, 2006. I don't remember how old all yours are and I know you had some miscarriages (SO sorry!) and then you had Sydney but I think she's younger than Noah by a bit. Lord my memory is GONE.......seriously.

Although I have heard of people requesting for it to be done I do not think it would be common as an OB is not a plastic surgeon and therefore doctors would have to coordinate and be willing to do so. I do recall someone once posting that their doctor *tightened* them up after c-section but not sure, again, seems unlikely. Keep in mind that the c-section itself is a major surgery and is trauma to the body and to complicate that with additional surgery may not be favorable. I am not a doctor however, so the best advice would be from your OB/Surgeon.

I am not perfect, but this is going to drive me crazy.

Sense = any of the faculties, as sight, hearing, smell, taste, or touch, by which humans and animals perceive stimuli originating from outside or inside the body

Since = from then till now; between a particular past time and the present; ago; before

You should be using "since" instead of "sense"
