My first post here!  How is everyone?

I am 18 months post op RNY and have lost 178 pounds.  I am about 10 pounds from my ultimate goal, but I have so much hanging skin that I will BET that most of it really is skin.  My lower body is kinda scary!

Anyway, I started charting back in September and noticed my luteal phase was quite short (8 days) and I was ovulating on like day 22 of a 30 day cycle.  I went to my gyno both to address the rash on my panni and to ask about this.  She gave me Nystatin (so far proving to be useless) and sent me for a day 21 progesterone test.

Before the test, she was of the opinion that everything was probably normal and that my charts looked different because of the extreme weight loss (everything is straightening itself out right now, etc).  I should probably throw in that she removed a canteloupe sized cyst from my fallopian tube (and removed the tube as a result).  So, I have two working ovaries and one working tube.

Yesterday, her office called to let me know that my test showed that I was, as I suspected, low on progesterone.  My level was like a 5.6.  She is having me try low dose Clomid in January.

At first I was like, great!  Let's do something about this!  Then I started thinking, should we be treating the underlying cause?  I got to thinking that maybe my pituitary gland (and high prolactin) might be involved.  I had a CAT scan a few years ago that showed a partially empty sella and at the time my prolactin was high.  I wasn't ready to have kids at 300+ pounds so I never pursued treatment.

I guess I am just thinking out loud and wondering if any of the more experienced peeps out there have any personal experience with any of these things.  Thanks to all!

I have no experience to share about the clomid or any of the other issues.    I just wanted to say Congrats on the weight loss and good luck with baby making!

Hi there! We are very close neighbors! I don't reveal where I live but most everyone on here knows I live in TX in the Dallas area. Well, a little more north than Dallas area, but oh well! LOL Gotta be safe where the internet is concerned.

Anywoo, I too have a short luteal phase. The ONLY way I was able to get pregnant with our 2nd baby was to use combination Clomid (100mg to start for me. We had been trying for over a year by that time) AND to start using progesterone suppositories starting day 15 and use it until I either got my period (and discontinue if period comes and start over next cycle with Clomid days 3-7 and then progesterone again day 15) but if I got a positive pregnancy test to continue the progesterone for the first trimester. Well the first round of that WORKED! I ended up taking the progesterone until week 15 with that pregnancy. 9 months later.........healthy baby girl!

I'm currently 6+ weeks pregnant and my progesterone level is 5.5. No I don't have any progesterone right now.......point of contention right now, waiting for Dr.'s office to call. LOL But, I'm here to tell you, you NEED to push for progesterone supplementation starting day 15 or whenever, (some women start a little later. Shoot, I might be remembering wrong and I started later......LOL That was 7 years ago!! LOL) I mean you are singing my song exactly with what I was going through. Now I didn't ovulate late this time when I got pregnant because we only had sex on one day so there was only ONE chance of conception, although the sperm could have hung out for 48 hours and fertilized a late blooming egg. Guess I'll find out when I get an ultrasound to date the pregnancy, but even at that, I would have been looking at approximately a 10-12 day luteal phase. 9 would be pushing it. But I STILL need the progesterone.

As you can tell, there's SO many factors to do deal with when you're dealing with short luteal phases and progesterone supplementation. Please ask your Dr. about it and read some stories on the internet. I TRULY believe that progesterone supplementation is what helped us get pregnant and carry to term. I've required progesterone with 3 of my 4 babies and need it right now with #5, so if you get pregnant subsequent to trying this time naturally, PLEASE get your progesterone checked IMMEDIATELY. Some people believe that not having a high enough level will cause you to miscarry. I believe it, which is why I'm freaking out right now.......LOL.

OK well I've written a novel. I hope I've helped in some way! Good luck to you and congrats on the weight loss!! Hugs!!

Thank you!  That is a question I intended to ask, but you have solidified it for me!

I read something about B6 supplementation also, so I added that to my massive list of vitamins this month.
