Too much sleep?

I know this might not seem like a problem for most new moms, but I wonder if my daughter is sleeping too much.  Is that possible? Elyse is 4 weeks old tomorrow. She wakes up to eat and has short periods of being awake (like 15 minutes, maybe) but I don't remember my other two kids sleeping this much.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Cooper slept a lot too at first.... but he'd be awake for an hour or so before going back for another nap.  His naps would last 30 minutes to an hour.

At night he never slept more than 2-3 hours until he was 4 months old without wanting food.

I say if you're super-concerned call your doctor.....

Thanks for your response! I've did some more research last night and I feel a little better about her sleeping habits now. I guess the biggest concern would be if she wasn't waking up to eat - she wakes up every 2-1/2 to 3 hours to eat.

Hayvann does that too and she is 4 weeks 2 days so same age. At night her bed time is 11 and she sleeps till like 245 or 3 am. She is awake till about 330 and sleeps again till about 6 to 630 and eats about the same amount of time and then sleeps again till 930 or 10. Then all day its eat sleep eat sleep but she sleeps a lot. I know thats how my other kids were but boy it seems like its been forever. :)

I'm glad to hear from someone with a baby the same age! I actually timed her the first time she was awake today and she stayed wide awake for about 35 minutes. She eats regularly too so I feel better about her sleepiness. Thanks!

It is perfectly normal. Mine did this at first. With my first I was worried but the doctor said it was normal because they are growing so much and it is hard work.

I wonder if it makes a difference that she was a lot smaller than my other two kids. She was 5 lbs 10 oz at birth - my other daughter was 8 lbs 1 oz!
