What should I expect when my water breaks?

Mandy,
If I spring a slow leak with this pregnancy I'll be taking a much more proactive stand!    It scares me to think of what could have happened.    If I have to I'll be at the Dr.s office or L&D everyday until they confirm what I know.

I love reading all of these stories...it is so very interesting in the trend I am seeing..that we as women always have one last thing to do before we can take the time to go to the hospital and deliver baby...LOL  I was ALWAYS the same way...I would decide...this is it..we should go to the hospital...but WAIT...I have to finish this load of laundry...or cooking dinner...or with my daughter born on Christmas...I wanted to get all of the toys put away and wrapping paper in the trash; i.e. house straightened up a bit before I would leave...LOL

We are strange creatures us mothers :)  It is simply amazing that more of us do not end up with our babies born in our cars on the side of the road than really do...LOL

Good luck, and if your water truly breaks...you will have no doubt...because it just keeps coming and coming...if you are a trickler...it's a little harder to tell whether that is urine or water...my suggesting is..do not take any chances...go to L&D...that is what they are there for...if it is urine...don't be embarrassed...its just part of life...if it is your baw...then be thankful you were so on top of things :)

Chances are it won't break at all. If it does, there's an even smaller chance of you being in public. And if you are, then there's an even bigger smaller chance that it will be some roaring gush of fluid.

Most women's water breaks at home and comes out as a trickle. Most pass it off as leaking pee. Rule is that if you can soak a menstrual pad an hour with fluid, then you're most likely leaking. I've only ever HAD my water broken and that was with my first one. Yes it was a gush....LOL but thankfully I was padded up on the hospital bed! lol

I wouldn't worry so much about the water breaking in public thing. Definitely not to the point of having a panic attack. Not good for you and baby. So relax! If you're really paranoid, wear a pad or panty liner when you go out. It won't help you if you, by some SMALL chance, GUSH in public, but it may put your mind at ease if you think your water might start to leak for some reason. Hugs!

Mine broke in 95 degree heat so I thought I was sweating.  It was a slow leak.

With my first one, I was laying in bed sleeping, and I felt a rush of warm water and thought I peed myself. I stood up and the water gushed to the floor. I told my mom and my sister cleaned up my room (hehehe). I put a towel between my legs and went to the hospital. But I when I got there, they told me they had to break my water, to speed up labor. So I guess it was just a leak.

I worked with a woman whose water broke while working. She was grocery cashier and it broke while she was checking out a customer. Everyone there was super excited that she was having the baby and didn't mind having to clean up after she was gone.
