What should I expect when my water breaks?
I have placenta previa and have a history of pre term labor so I am starting to freak out a little about going into labor and not being able to get to the hospital in time.
Last night I was at the movies and started having a panic attake wondering what I would do if my water broke while out in public. Any of you have these fears?

Also with PP you'd probably have more blood mixed in with your waters if it were to break prematurely.
I wouldn't worry too much though as 90% of women have to have their waters broken for them or it happens well into labor.
If you have a c/s you'll know when they've reached your uterus/baby because you get this gush of water coming out of you like you're peeing but have no control over it. It's really weird feeling.
If your BoW breaks naturally then it pretty much feels like someone is pouring warm water down your pants. If your Dr. breaks your BoW then it's almost like the c/s feeling because it's a little more controlled and you'll probably have chux pads and extra towels and bedding catching all of the liquids. But it still feels like warm water rushing out of you and you can't control it.
I birth unassisted, and I dilate and efface early so I usually have a traveling birth kit in my car with me when out and about. I have extra chux pads, adult diapers, extra pair of pants or a skirt (easier if you end up giving birth on the side of the road), things for baby, like blankets, towels, cord ties, scissors, and more.
I've birthed 7 times and UC'd 5 times so I'm used to all of this, LOL I worried a lot with my BoW breaking out in public because by 35-36 weeks I am usually 5-6cm dilated and 60-80% effaced. It's a reality I face but thankfully haven't faced so I just travel prepared. :)

Mom to 8 ~ Adelyn Grace arrived July 8, 2010!
Mine broke while I was lying in bed sleeping last Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. I thought I wet myself because I had been sleeping with the aid of Benadryl. I stood up to go to the bathroom and it just kept gushing. Even my socks were soaked. I went through 3 pair of pamts before I got out of the house to the hospital. Sat on a garbage bag with another shirt on top to avoid leaking in my brother's girlfriends mustang. Got to the hospital, stood up out of the car and whoosh soaked again.
I am now laying in the hospital until 35 weeks. The amount of fluid I leak varies, but on average I am soaking 4 of those big huge pads they give you a day.
Thanks for the posts everyone. Its nice to know that more than likely I will just go into labor and then my water will break...hopefully. I would hate to be out in public and it break.

I think my water had been leaking for a few days. It was such a small amount that I thought maybe I was just losing control of my bladder. I did mention it to my OB and she checked with the test strip. It was negative. I had an ultrasound that day. My fluid level was fine, but Hannah didn't have any fluid around her head at all. Looking back now I should have questioned that more. I still continued to have a small amount leak out a couple of times a day. I think Hannah's head was acting as a corkscrew and only letting out only very small amounts at a time.
This leaking went on for about 5 or 6 days. I'm very lucky that I didn't end up with an infection!
I was at walmart when I was pretty sure it was my water leaking and not me peeing on myself. I had just put the groceries in my trunk and put the shopping cart in the return. I felt a decent size gush. When I got home my panties were soaked. I still wasn't convinced I hadn't peed on myself though. What I ended up doing was actually peeing on a piece of toilet paper just to make sure that my pee wasn't as clear and odorless as what was on my underwear.
I put on a pad (they can check that at the hospital to see if your water has broke).
I still didn't go to L&D right away. I was waiting on my hubby to get home and I wanted to cook supper lol (I wasn't having contractions or anything). By the time he got home I was walking around with a towel between my legs.
So off to L&D we went. For some reason the test strip the nurse used on my pad didn't turn dark enough. When she did an internal check there wasn't any doubt. When she checked my cervix water went running everywhere.
Miss Hannah was born the next day!
If you feel any seeping please don't be afraid to go get checked. I'm very blessed that Hannah didn't have an infection when she was born due do how long my water had been leaking.
