Want to start trying...What do I need to do first??

My husband and I have talked about starting to try for one more.  Thinking of starting in January.

I am about a year and a half out from surgery. (Surgery May 2008) I have started taking folic acid and already take a multi, calcium etc.

I talked to my ob about 6 months ago and told me to start trying then.  I really wanted to loose as much as I could before I started trying.

I just turned 40 and only have one tube.  I lost the first baby about 9 years ago and also lost the tube.  I have two daughters one is 7 and one is 8.  Hoping it wont take too long, but am willing to be patient since I can only really get pregnant 6 times a year.

So here is my question....I know what to do to get pregnant (LOL) but is there anything I need to do to prepare.  My drs. have not really given me any advice, just to start trying.  Anything I should take?  My labs look pretty good.  I want my body to be very prepared for this pregnancy, if it can happen.

Many of you have been in my shoes before so I thought I would ask for your advice.  Thanks so very much!

Hi Melissa,

I really don't have any advice but wanted to wish you the best of luck!  I am glad you waited until 18 months out of surgery, that will help you alot.  Since you are 40 and only have 1 tube did your ob suggest anything?  I would start with them.  I know a few months back when I wasn't getting pregnant that the nurse said if I wasn't pregnant in 3 months to come back and we would do other things.  I am almost 39.  I ended up getting pregnant 4 months after that visit.

good luck and welcome to this board!

Bambi:

Thank you so much for your kind words.   I really appreciate it.

No the OB just said start trying, which we will start doing.

So glad to hear you are pregnant, its so exciting!  I am hoping its that easy again.

After I lost the tube I was pregnant in 2 months.  Then after the first baby I got pregnant right away for the second (My girls are 16 months apart!)

I am just wondering if there are any supplements I should be taking before I get pregnant.  I am taking Folic Acid to help with birth defects.  I just to do all I can to make this a healthy baby.  Should I be loading up on more Vitamins?

Looking forward to reading on and keeping up with this board.

The multi and the folic should be fine. The key is to keep a good eye on your levels and start supplementing if they should drop. You have a 'store' of a lot of vitamins and they don't really start dropping off for awhile. Baby will take what it needs, don't worry...we just wouldn't want you to suffer. I had my labs drawn monthly while pg and started supplementing b12, iron and d during pg...but my levels stayed pretty normal.

Also, it is recommended that after 6 months of trying you see an RE for help if you are over 35. Good luck. I post on fridays for those trying if you would like to join in. Shari

Thank you so much!

I will keep my eyes open for you and read on Fridays.   I would love to join in.

Thank you so much for the info on how long to try before contacting the RE.  I wasnt sure if they would help me or not because of my age.

Going to have my labs done again after Christmas to make sure where I am at, before we start in January.

Going to Disney for the first time in January with my husband, mother and our two little ones.  Sounds silly but I always have bad morning sickness and didnt want to deal with that while we were there for the first time.  Looking forward to our vacation and spending time with the family.

Sincerely,
Melissa

No advice.  Just starting TTC for my first.  I have one tube also due to a cyst (my alien baby LOL).  My doctor never explained that you can only get pregnant 6 times a year and implied that the one working tube can pick up the egg from both sides.  I realize there is more than one school of thought on this...

Is there really?  I thought it was an absolute???

If that is true, thats great!  I really thought I only had a chance 6 times a year.

What did your doctor say?  How old are you, if thats okay to ask.

Going to start trying in January.  Right now just keepiing track of everything.  Gettting my bloods work done after Christmas.  Dont want to be deficiant in anything before I get back on the rollercoaster.  Taking folic acid everyday.  A little worried, am I going to be able to do this again?  Am I too old?

Just praying and in my heart feel like if its meant to be it will happen.  Not sure if I am willing to go the drug route.  Dont think I can handle the multiple birth thing...

Thank you for responding and I am looking forward to what you have to say about what your dr. said....

I have heard it both ways.  I prefer to be optimistic!  LOL!

I am 31.  My doctor's words to me were that this did not diminish my fertility in any way.  However, I also have low progesterone.  Starting Clomid in January...

I think the docs don't really know for sure...
