OT: baby food
No opinions cause well, haven't been there yet.
But is Lucas going on baby food? Drew had his appointment today too (which I know you already know) but he didn't say anything about baby food and I didn't really think it was something to ask about this early - this first time mommy thing is nuts - lol.

it will vary from doc to doc and mom to mom.
we personally do not start any type of baby food til 6 months at least. no cereal at all except the occasional mixing into baby food later on and no juice til over a year. and I'd never put cereal in a bottle unless a doctor made it clear I needed to (and even then I'd fight it pretty damn hard)
but again...it varies by mom and doc and you do what you feel is right for your little one. nobody is wrong.

hi Shauna, yes we talked about food, he yes definitely to cereal, and my choice on first baby foods anytime between now and 6 months, I am surprised your ped didn'y even mention it to you. Mine also gives info sheets that tells all about starting solids that I think would be awesome for first time moms...heck I like the info as veteran mom!
But from what I read and understand the recommended time is between 4-6 months.
Oh and Lucas loves cereal and he tried a couple of bites of sweet potatoes last and really liked those!

Cooper started solids at 4 months too - altough he didn't like rice cereal and since he is formula fed it really didn't hold much nutrition for him (breast fed babies benefit from the iron and b vits in cereal, but formula fed baby gets all that from their formula).
So we went to veggies..... he's eaten green beans, peas and squash. He starts carrots this weekend!
I have tried Gerber Organic, Beech-Nut and Earth's Best. It seems like Gerber might add more water as theirs are usually more liquidy.
I don't like the plastic containers either... I am weary of plastic in general and the chemicals. (We use glass bottles too) So I have been buying Beech-Nut and Earth's Best. (Toys R Us sells Earth's Best for prices equilivant to Gerber when it's on sale).
As far as Cooper is concerned he's eaten whatever brand I put in his mouth. He ate Peas from all three of the brands I mentioned with just as much enthusiam for one as for another.
Good Luck!
Cindy
