I have to announce...
Those of you on facebook already know...
But I am now an official college graduate with my Bachelor's of the Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Spanish.
That being said, my weight loss has had EVERYTHING to do with this major accomplishment. I started Georgian Court University, a private University in New Jersey as a Freshman in 2005. I weighed around 350lbs. At the end of Freshman year I was on academic probation with a 1.7 GPA. This was not because I was not smart or capable.
I was fat, I was depressed and had no motivation what so ever. I could barley walk to class, and when I was there I could not fit in the seats. I could not wear any pants but sweatpants and felt disgusting. I almost dropped out Freshman year. In the summer between my Freshman and Sophomore year I saw Dr. Onopchenko. I was 18 years old and weighed 363 lbs and was super morbidly obese with a BMI of 63. He agreed to do the surgery if I lost 40lbs. It took me a year but I did it. I had my RNY GBS on September 17, 2007, the fall semester of my Junior year.
I lost 170lbs. I pulled myself off of probation and graduated with a 3.0. I was the president of my class for my Junior and Senior year. I got married my senior year of college. My weight loss made me motivated again. I was not depressed anymore, and realized I was capable of so much more.
If you asked me my freshman year of high school if I would ever go to college, I would have said "no." If you asked me when I graduated high school if I would finish college, I would have said "no."
I did it. I am so proud of myself, and hope I can be a motivation for anyone who wants to accomplish anything in their life.
Now I'm about to be a momma and cannot wait!
Thank you everyone for all the support!

YAY!!! Good for you girl, many congratulations to you!! I completed my degree whilst horribly obese at 373lbs, and whilst I got my degree, I believe my college experience would've been much better had I not been overweight....I didn't mix with people or go out, missed alot of classes and probably could've done much better.
But hey my RNY has been my making, I found a job after getting surgery, I was unemployed for a year after college as I was fat and depressed, now I too am gonna be a momma and I'm even thinking of going back to college next year to study to be a Social Worker ( I am currently a teacher).
Many Congrats again to you!!! Hope you have a fabulous christmas!!

Congratulations. You've worked hard - on a personal level and an educational level - to get where you are now at. Isn't it sad to know - from your own experiences - that there are so many other people out there in the same boat, who don't get the opportunity to change their lives, their attitudes and their self confidence by something so life altering as WLS?

Reading your post brought tears to my eyes because I understand it. I tried going back to college time and time but being so fat and depressed I just kept dropping out. You have earned that right to be so proud of yourself!!!!!! Congrats on finishing school!!!!!!
Now you need to go do something for yourself, something relaxing for your body and your mind!!!
