Update on triplets
Well we had a pretty bad week last week.
Eli had the good week. He was stable, had his chest tube removed and yesterday they were able to take him off of the respirator and put him on the CPAP machine instead. I was able to Kangaroo him for two hours. I heard him cry for the first time also (I thought it was air leaking from the tubing but it was squeaks from him.) His ultrasound yesterday was not too good though and he is having a shunt put in tomorrow.
With Charlie our girl, they tried to seal off her chest tubes to see if they could be removed, unfortunately the air built back up in her chest and they had to reopen them and leave them in. Then came Thursday. In the morning she started suffering set backs on her breathing and they took x-rays of her chest to discover her right lung had hyperinflated and would not deflate. It was filling her chest cavity and had pinched her left lung shut. They attempted to deflate the lung through positioning, was not working. Through the day her oxygen level dropped and her CO2 levels raised and they called us at about 9 p.m. to tell us that she had about 12 hours. We went rushing into the hospital and by the time we got there apparently the lung had deflated finally. They had been able to lower the respirator settings and her gases were back to normal. Since then she has steadily improved. Sunday she had her left chest tube removed and hopefully she has had the second one removed, I am going in later tonight and will find out then. She is borderline with the need for a shunt, she will probably get it later this week if the chest tube is removed.
Caleb was gaining weight and was on continuous feedings. He developed an infection and they had to stop the feedings due to his stomach swelling. The test of the PICC line was negative so they did not need to remove it. They did a lumbar puncture on Sunday and it was negative so no infection in the spine. He will be on antibiotics for two weeks. His ultrasound was good, there has been no enlargement of his ventricles so they will do another ultrasound next Monday.
Thank you everyone for your support, prayers and good thoughts and vibes. We need all we can get. I am not online very frequently but will continue to update as I can.

I'm sorry you're having to learn about all this medical terminology and procedures. I don't know what a lot of these procedures mean or what the long-term effects of them are...but I hope they bring three miracles your way and help your little ones get stronger each day.
