gall stone pain years after gall bladder removal

So for the last 6 months I have had severe and random pain.  I've actually posted about this before....the pain is identical to when I had gall stones.  I had my gall bladder removed in 2005.  So I was on the net and read about how its possible to have gall stones appear years after removal but in the bile duct????  Has anyone ever heard of this?  I'm going to see my primary dr today about the pain since the ER and wl dr have no clue whats going on with me.

A friend of mine had a stone in the bile duct and had to have it fished out...it is common and feels just like gallbladder pains

well, I shouldve looked into this before but I can't stand the pain any longer....sometimes the pain is every two weeks or every two months...its so random.  The ER did a catscan but they thought I was having complications from the wls....I really don't know if they checked anything else....

Are those left over stones or new ones that somehow develop? I am having the same issues. I had mine removed last year.

I shall now be know as Hagatha: Queen of the queens.

I havent been to the dr yet but just from searching the net its says..."gallbladder surgery gets rid of the stones in the gallbladder but it does not remove stones in the bile duct.  Gall stones can form in the bile duct months-years after the gallbladder is removed."    I guess it could be new or old......I'm going to see my primary dr this afternoon, so hopefully I will get more info.

Were you checked for adhesions and/or partial small bowel obstruction??  Either can cause gallbladder-like pain but the partial SBO can be really severe like a GB attack and then go away.  It's caused when a loop of the intestine gets trapped (they need to free flow); most times it works itself out.  Just a thought.  Maybe this is what the docs were looking for but didn't find in the ER?

yes, at the ER they thought that was the problem but did a catscan and told me everything was ok.  With me being 19 weeks pregnant, I'm wondering what kind of testing and treatment they can really do right now....

I have a friend that had the same issue. She had a stone in her bile duct and had to have a subsequent surgery to have that removed as well. I'd call an internist or whoever took out your gall bladder. My RNY surgeon ordered most of the testing so I personally would call him.

Best of luck and keep us posted! Hope that you are feeling better quickly.

yes, that's what I think it is too...I went to my primary dr and they are referring me to a gastrointestinal dr....the only thing that upset me was that  she won't give me any pain meds for when I have another attack.  My dr said that she doesnt feel comfortable giving me any narcotics since I'm pregnant.  Well,  the last attack I had lasted 4 hours and I can't go through that again without meds....so I'm going to call my ob dr today and see what she says.
