I went on the depo shot because of my surgery (Sept. 08).  My last shot was Dec. 8th of 2008.  In June, July, August, and Sept. I got my period.  Then nothing.  I'm not pregnant.  I've taken tests, with the last one being a few days ago.  I reached my goal in Sept. 09 and have only lost 3 pounds since then.  I'm eating very well and still taking my vitamins.  My blood work have all come back great!  People have suggested to me that is could be because of my weight loss.  I was wondering if anyone has had a period post surgery then it went away?  My husband and I tried for 3 years to ttc before the surgery and I really thought loosing weight would help and now this!!!!  I was regular preop!

well it could be a lot of things. When was your period due this month?  Only one way to find out! Take a pregnancy test and keep us posted!

I used depo as well...they say it can take up to 12 months to completely come out of your system...not to scare you; however, it took a very long time for me to get a period after coming off the shot.  But I had other issues, so I can't really say 100% it was the shot.  I didn't have my period at all for five years while on it....

I would inquire with your gyno on the subject...

Good luck...tacey

Talk to your dr and see what's up.  My uneducated guess would be that they'll put you on a few months of bc pills to get your cycle going, then you'll be able to come off and start ttc.

Congrats on reaching your goal weight.  Good luck TTC.

Doctors really **** me off where Depo is concerned.  They do not ever tell you the complete side effects from it.  A PP was correct that it CAN take up to 12 months to get out of your system.  Everyone is different.  I was on it, had horrible side effects, but the doc kept telling me things will normalize in a few months.  Well after a year of having periods constantly I went off of it.  Then I didn't have a period for about 6 months, ended up getting pregnant with twins during that time, which ended in a horrible miscarriage at 14-16 weeks, they were unsure of the exact dates due to no period and the pregnancy never really growing right.  So, my guess is you are going to have to be patient.  Something you should know is you CAN ovulate even with no period, you just have no freaking idea when it is happening.  I would go to the doc and ask for progesterone either shots or pills.  This will help get your cycles going.  However, if the Depo is still in your system, you may or may not ovulate even though you are having periods.  I dunno if all of this makes sense, but if you need me to try to clarify anything just ask.  Basic answer..go to your doc and talk to them (if you have taken a home PT and it was neg)...I wish you luck.  The good news is...this is not permanent, and eventually your body SHOULD go back to normal and you should be successful with TTC.

Good luck :)

Thanks everyone!  According to my charts and opk I have been ovulating, with the exception of my last (94 day) cycle!  I'm going to see a RE on Monday, but I wanted to see if anyone thought it might be weight related.  Even though the RE is a specialist, I don't know how familiar they are with RNY side effects.
