A few questions

Max is 11 months old. So here are a few of my mommy questions:

1. When did you start switching over from formula/breast milk to whole milk?

2. How do I do that? Bottle/sippy cup?

3. When the change is made, how do you go out? I mean right now I just put his formula is a formula cup and fill his bottles with water and just mix when needed. How do I do this when the switch is made? Hope this made sense!

4. Does he go from his 5 bottles a day that are from 4-8 ounces to just 3 with his breakfast, lunch and dinner?
This is his meal plan right now:

wake up    8oz bottle
mid morn  cereal with 4oz bottle
1pm or so  8oz bottle
4pm or so 6oz
6pm or so dinner with 4oz bottle
9pm 8oz only if he has not fell asleep for the night

TIA!!!

1. I switched to whole milk at 11 months. She was and is a fantstic eater (not picky) so pedi said she got plenty of nutrients from food.

2. I was so set on transitioning to cup at 1 year old but that didn't happen. She is now 20 months old and I still give her a bottle afternoon and evening (working on stopping this now). She won't drink milk out of a cup, but again Pedi said she eats well including cheese and yogurt that if she wont drink it out of a cup thats fine.

3. Obviously planning to go out is a bit different since milk will spoil. I just gave her it before we left or brought it and had her drink it soon after. Lots of convenient store stops if we were out all day.

4. Again she eats everything so I went to 3 6oz bottles, and slowly went down to 3 4oz. I am now going to stop bottles all together, so it will probably be 0. But she drinks plain water or 1/2 juice 1/2 water just fine from the cup.

This is pretty much her meal plan from 12 months on:

B - French Toast or toast with jelly, baby cereal with half jar baby food fruit
L - Baby food veggies (she will still eat them), 1/2 turkey, ham or bologna sandwich, grilled cheese, 2% mac n cheese
D - whatever we are eating or a toddler meal

Snacks: Pretzels, goldfish, yogurt, applesauce, teddy grahams, cheese stick. (not all on the same day) LOL

1.  your pedi should tell you, but I started the switch over about 11 months

2. has your son already drank from a sippy cup?  if so, I would switch straight to the cup with the whole milk.

3. You can start out with mixing formula and the whole milk or give straight milk to see how he handles it.  some kids don't like whole milk...you will have to see how Max will take it...some kids will drink it cold others need it heated up.  As for going out, I would bring a cooler along with a icepack to keep the milk colder.

4. I served milk with all meals and snacks.  I never really measured how much she was getting, but I am sure you will want to continue his evening bottle for awhile longer.

I always mixed the cereal with BM, or if you are doing formula, then 1 scoop plus the 2 oz of water.  Then however much more water you might need.  When you go to whole milk then I would put that in with the cereal.

HTH.

Thank you so much! This has really helped. He will drink from the sippy cup sometimes but rather have the bottle. He is not a big eater, sometimes he refuses to eat food, especially at night and when he does he will only eat big people food, refuses baby food now. He will eat baby fruit with his cereal.

How long should he stay eating the baby cereal?

My boys ate the baby cereal mixed with fruit or yogurt until they were 17 months old for breakfast. We had a ton left over from WIC program, we still have 2 boxes, but they refuse to eat it now!  They don't need it and I think it was time to switch to something else for breakfast.
