13 months post op..TTC
Hi there,
congrats on your weightloss! I got pregnant at 10 months post op...not on purpose, was 15 pounds from goal.
Yes, still do your protein shakes. I was told to get 80 to 90 grams of protein in a day. Make sure you are taking all your vitamins that you should and add prenatals.
I don't worry so much about calories as long as you are getting protein, you do need to add carbs as well.
good luck,
Bambi

Congrats on the weight loss and good luck ttc. I post a thread on fridays for the girls trying, so be sure to join in to that for support too. The important thing to remember is that baby will take what it needs from you and you don't want to be deficient...so you need to stay on top of things. I have had 2 post op pg's at about 2 and 4 years out and became deficient in iron, b-12 and d. The important thing is working with your doctor and have labs drawn regularly...I did mine every month. If something starts dropping you can supplement. Also switch from multi vitamins to prenatals now because they have folic acid which is important to prevent birth defects.
Protein drinks are a good way to get in the extra calories you need during pg. Especially one you make with milk. I was told to up my calories from 1200 to 1700 during pg and 2200 now breastfeeding. Seems impossible, but with diligence you can get close. I ate every 2 hours and added a couple of glasses of milk, but didn't really do protein drinks. It is also important to add good carbs back into your diet as ketosis is bad for baby. So balance each meal and snack.
Good luck and keep us posted. Shari
