How funny, what city are you in? I actually had her closer to Wilder road in between 5 Lakes road.

The article used to be archived at Countypress.com but they no longer have that issue online. It was the December 8th, 2004 issue and they only go back 3 years now.

I live in Almont, so probably about 20-25 minutes from you.

I am very familiar with the wilder road exit  I take it often when I go to Lapeer.  lol

I still can't get over how crazy that is.  I am going to ask my mom if she remembers the baby born on 69 because they have a subscription to the county press.

I love Almont and drive through once a week. There is one other person who posts here from Lapeer and she is TTC. Small world!

Wow I never would have imagined there would be 3 of us that live so close together.

I am actually pg right now but still fairly early.  According to my ultrasound I am due July 10th but I think it is just a day or two earlier, which in the long run means nothing.  But I however am a huge worrier and to have another day or two closer to that 12 week mark might ease my nerves.

I have just one child that will be 8 in February and had an ectopic pregnancy in Aug.  I am very attached to this baby so I am hoping for the best.  I have had no reason to think otherwise just my fears from the loss fogging my brain.

Congratulations!! Sorry about your eptopic, that had to have been scary and sad all wrapped in one. Are you delivering at Lapeer? After Reagan was born in the van I was transferred there so when I got pregnant again and my husband had different insurance I went to Dr. Gromada who told me I was too old and too fat to have a baby. I was 38 with a BMI of 38.

Patrick was born at Henry Ford Macomb (which was St. Joe's then).  My OB retired a year or two after he was born and I didn't have a great experience there.  So when we decided to start TTC I looked at all my options for OB and out of various hospitals.  Lapeer was not on my list long at all.  In all they only have a few OBs total, so the selection was slim.  Patrick was born at 34 weeks and the info I found on the hospital didn't say anything about there being a special care nursery or anything of the sort.  I have 2 friends that delivered there that were happy but then I have many more friends that wouldn't dream of delivering there.  I was open to it till I felt that they would potentially not be prepared for me being post op RNY and with a history of premature labor.

So I looked at troy beaumont and crittenton and ultimately decided on crittenton.  I found a big very busy practice of doctors only about 20 minutes from me which living in Almont might as well be in my back yard.  Crittenton has a special care nursery and my doctor is a chief OB.  After selecting my doctor I found a lot of people that had many babies with the various doctors and were very pleased.  So hopefully it goes well for me too!

I can't believe your doc commented on your age and weight.  Even though I have had surgery I could still stand to lose 100 pounds, because I started out at 365.  I am down to 240 now and my bmi is still 37.5 but my doctor never acted like my weight was an issue at all.  I think I would have to switch doctors if I thought that would be an issue.

I love Crittenton. It is a great hospital and a great location. I had Riley at Troy and I liked everything but the one OB. I only saw Dr. Gromada that one time and left his office crying. I would never have delivered at Lapeer after that experience.

I started at 354 pounds and I'm only 5'4" so my BMI was 60.1. It is currently 28.7 but I no longer give credit to the surgery. I had gained back about 55 after 5 years and 2 babies.

If you had had Patrick at Lapeer they would have transfered him to Hurley. It is a good thing you didn't choose Lapeer back then. So many of my neighbors that went with Lapeer had to transfer and it was so hard on them.

See that makes me happy that I chose Crittenton because I was very seriously thinking about Lapeer.  It was hard enough with Patrick being in the special care nursery from the moment he was born (which I wasn't prepared for and is one reason that I don't like henry ford) but if he was transferred that would have been agonizing.

I was initially leaning more toward troy beaumont but I couldn't find a doctor that was as close.

Now what I have to decide now is what to do about pediatricians.  I don't really like the locations of the peds out of crittenton.  The nurse OB said I could still stay with our other ped out of henry ford that he would just have to sign off for initial care.  But I have a lot of time to think about that.

I have not had the best luck with pediatricians. When Reagan was 6 months old I stopped going to a ped and just took her to our family doctor here in North Branch. When Riley was born with so many complications I picked out a new ped and only went to him one time. The nurse had me lay him on the scale and it was dirty with writing on the paper. I have taken him to the family doctor every since.

I don't give my kids formula at all and I delay most foods and for some reason the peds in Lapeer get really pushy about it. With Reagan she was so big and chunky (95th percentile her first full year) but he kept pushing and pushing me to introduce cereal. When I told him I wasn't going to ever give her cereal he rolled his eyes at me. That is the practice on Balwin and I can't remember his name right now. The dirty place was in the building across from Lapeer hospital.

Good luck! There are tons of good doctors. You may love the ped they give the baby at the hospital and just go with him or her.
