Stages of crawling ? (Happy St. Nick's Day!)

Happy St. Nick's Day, Everyone !

I have a question about crawling....I am having trouble with how to phrase my question.

Cooper sits and now he reaches. (see below)   Will one day he suddenly get on his hands and knees?  Or is that position gained from being on his stomach?

I guess I am asking.....from what position does a baby start when they crawl?  Do they start from sitting or laying at first ?

He rolls over now (yay!) so tummy time is quite difficult.  I just want to encourage whatever motions are needed to crawl.  His dad didn't crawl and has reading problems (dyslexia) and I have read not crawling may have something to do with it....  may.

Thank you !!

Cindy

One of these days Cooper is going to reach his daddy's trains under the tree and knock them off the track and his daddy will be upset!

It does ease my mind!

Did you scoot, creep, army crawl or anything before walking?

My husband NEVER moved until he stood up and walked.  Article I read said it has to do with the right-left / hand-foot movement that triggers something in the brain.

Three people mentioned it (without knowing my husband has dyslexia) that babies need to crawl before walking for language development.

I know if dyslexia is going to happen there is no way I can change it...  I just want to catch it as soon as possible!

Thanks!

My daughter didn't crawl until after she walked, so I'm not sure. I would say that the dyslexia and the motor delay are not exactly related, and would have been diagnosed as two seperate developmental issues, although they may both signal concerns with the developing brain. I don't think Cooper will have any problem moving- although he may walk before he crawls!

I know there's no use worrying.... I was jus****ching him the other day and wasn't sure how to best encourage him -- from sitting or standing.

Glad to hear others have babies that don't crawl !

Alex would reach for things while on his belly and eventually that led to crawling.  It was actually scooting at first.   I would put toys he liked just out of his reach.  For a long time though he would find a way to just roll to the things he wanted.

Cooper is just starting to roll...he only goes from belly to back for now, but I see he's trying from back to belly.

Maybe he'll start to roll too !

Thanks for sharing!

Matthew started from his belly to up on all fours.  He rocked on all fours about a week then he took off.  As silly and crazy as it sounds I used to put Matt on the floor every night and let him watch me crawl around the floor...LOL.  He started crawling early at 6 months.  The pedi said most don't crawl until 8 to 10 months.  But every baby does things differently so Cooper may crawl from that position.

I know most babies don't crawl until 8 to 10 months.... my nephew didn't crawl until 11 months!  (then walked at 12 months)

The picture of him rocking on all fours in my mind is cute !!  :-)

Thank you!
