How do you know if you have PPD?

The last few weeks I've not had any motivation to do anything.  It takes all I have to get out of bed.  I'm quick to let others handle Alex.  He practically spent the entire weekend down in the "dungeon"  (basement) with his dad and it didn't bother me one bit.  I've also been quite emotional lately and almost always on the verge of tears.

Awww poor thing! I think you might have some level of PPD or maybe PMS. If it's been going on longer than PMS would I would check w/ your PCP to see if you should think about some meds to get you thru it. I hope you get to the bottom of it and feel yourself again soon!

Sounds like you need to call your OB or your PCP.   I hope you feel better soon.

Well, for me it was kind of similar, except I didn't really have anyone to hand the baby off to because he was breastfeeding about every hour and a half. I wasn't just on the verge of tears, but about day 5 home from the hospital I was sobbing every time I tried to speak. I was having thoughts along the lines of, "I wish no one had known I was pregnant, because then I could just give him away and it would be like it never happened."
It really is a self defining thing. Do you feel like what you're feeling now is affecting your ability to bond with your baby? If so, it probably is worth seeing your doc about it. I started zoloft for mine and felt 100% better in about 2 days.

I just had a question for you. I am not depressed and I really do not feel sad however I was prescribed Zoloft for anxiety and a very low dose at that and it makes me so sleepy I can't keep my eyes open. So she suggested that I take 1/2 pills, so I tried that but after a few days I felt in a fog (dazed). Did this happen to you? Do you still take it? I am so against medication I usually find something wrong with them.

Weird, it doesn't make me sleepy or foggy at all! I think I'm taking 50mg. The only real side effect I've ever noticed is that (when I took it about 9 years ago), it didn't affect my libido, but it DID affect my ability to have an ****** oddly enough, this time around that hasn't been an issue, but I also don't remember what dose I was on when I took it before.
I am still on it, my OB recommended staying on it for 6 months.

I was like this with DD#1 and I didn't enjoy anything when she was a baby. This time DD#2 is 4 months old on the 12th and its COMPLETELY different! I don't have PPD this time and just wish that I had gotten medication when my 1st was a baby. Go see a doctor or even a therapist if you think you need it, PPD SUCKS especially when a little one who is completely dependent on you needs mommy to be happy and full of life for them.
