Weighty Issue
Posting here because I am having a hard time. I had my Lap band surgery a year and half ago and went from 247 to 176. I just found out I was pregnant a week ago. I am about 5 weeks pregnant. Well around 11-10 I was fluctuating between 179-181. Now I am up to 184, and totally frustrated, I really can not eat a lot and my fit day is recording between 900-1200 calories.....I have not uped them, I exercise at least three days a week and have continued. What is wrong with me? Why am I gaing already so quickly. I mean I have already gained an inch around my waist. I know I should not be so worried about this, but I am so scared of gaining all my weight back, and in all honesty how gain someone really gain on the calories I am eating? I just don't get it. I mean I really understand you kinda need to gain some weight in the second and third trimester but not this much at 5 weeks! Just need some encouragement! BTW this is my 5th pregnancy three living one miscarriage and then this one. Thanks so much in advance.

Hi Sara and congrats! I am thinking it is jus****er weight. Your baby only weighs about a half an ounce right now. Water weight will make you feel very bloated and larger too. The instant I got pregnant my weight loss stopped. I didn't actually gain for a few months!! You have the band, when the baby is out they can close it up tight. You will still have your tool! Just don't go crazy eating during the pregnancy, but don't deprive yourself either!!
Good luck

Sara,
I gained 8 pounds right off the bat- and have since lost a few with morning sickness. It is frustrating, but my weight has held pretty steady until now- I'm 12 weeks along today. I think sometimes the body responds like that, at least mine does. I hadn't upped calories or changed my routine in any way either. One of my best friends also gained right at the first, before she really realized she was pregnant, so I think it's common. But I haven't gained since. Hopefully your experience will be similar!

Thanks for the quick reply ladies.....I just seem to be getting really depressed about the gain, I am trying hard not to think about it, but I do not want to go back to where I was, even if I am pregnant. I was a miserable miserable person! I have been fighting my weight 25 years and am tired...plain tired, i justr want a normal pregnancy!
Thanks again

Stop worrying so much about it. Just keep eating healthy and what will happen will happen. I gained a LOT of fluid weight during my pregnancy, but by the time I was home from the hospital I was only 4 lbs over my pre-pregnancy weight. You'll be OK! I know it's easy to stress about those numbers, just try not to let it gnaw at you too much.

Your body is probably retaining a lot of water. Additionally, your blood supply is being increased. I'm no doc, but if you ask me I'd say it'll probably settle down soon. You might even lose some once the morning sickness kicks in.
I stressed a bit a first two thinking I needed to be sure to control my weight. I gained my first ten very fast (first trimester) and now for the past 8 weeks only gained two pounds. As you will hear everyone is different; however, thinking the best advice I can give as long as you are careful what goes in and pay attention to ensuring you get those healthy items, you will do fine...Good luck!
