Questions about after MC
Hi ladies,
Just had a few questions about after MC ..
When does your "normal" cycle come back?
When does the bleeding stop? I mc'd 11/01 and i'm still spotting!
How long typically should you wait before TTC again?
TIA,
Cathie

Cathie,
For me it kind of depended on whether or not I had a natural miscarriage or had a D&C. With the natural I bled for quite some time...I seem to remember a few weeks and then it took longer to have a normal cycle. When I had my D&C everything seemed to move a little faster and things went back to normal quicker.
I was always told to wait a cycle or two before trying again just to let your body rest. In fact, the last time, my OB made me wait until I had an HCG-free blood test. Once I had 0 HCG in my blood I was given the okay to go ahead, and quite frankly, I got pregnant the next cycle.
I hope that your body gets back to normal soon. If it doesn't, I would contact your OB and see if maybe they might recommend a progesterone withdrawal to get the spotting to stop.

Bleeding/spotting for me has been about 10 +/- days, and my cycle usually starts up 3-5 weeks after the mc.
One dr told me there was no need to 'wait' to TTC again...but a specialist I spoke to in the States said to wait two cycles. He said that there is a higher risk of subsequent mc if you immediately get pg again after a mc w/o a cycle or two in between.

My RE said that everyone is different during miscarriage with no surgical intervention. Some bleed the entire time that the body is waiting for the HCG to get back to <5 (not pregnant). Some will just bleed during the passing of the tissue and then stop and won't start their period until the blood work goes down to not pregnant.
Both times, once my blood work came back not pregnant, I had my period within a week. With my miscarriage at 8 1/2 weeks, I bled for two weeks and then I had my period 28 days later. My blood test one week before I started showed up not pregnant.
With my ectopic, I bled for 45 days and then started my period four days later. My blood test came back the week before not pregnant and then I started.
It all has to do with how fast your HCG numbers are going down. They use your HCG numbers to also ensure that all the tissue did in-fact miscarry.
My RE said I had to wait one cycle with the natural miscarriage. He said I had to wait two cycles with the ectopic because I had methotrexate (chemo) to dissolve the pregnancy.
Good luck!
