I personally think a baby bathtub is a huge waste of money. I put a towel in the sick and stuck her in there, it's a pain to fill up the little tub with water and then drain it, ect. The kitchen sick is at a good height also so it doesn't kill your back and it saves your knees if you're doing it in the big tub.
The thing I used alot early on was a front carrier. My daughter hated the car seat and so the stroller/car seat combo thing didn't get used much at all until she was much older. The front carrier was awesome, she loved being close to me and I loved having my hands free. Newborns are constantly blowing out their diapers, so just have a ton of clothes for them. I had no idea I needed as much as I did. Oh and I hated the diaper jeanie thing, I just used a trash can with a lid and emptied it every day. It saves money from buying the inserts for that thing.

great points tami...you can NEVER have enough sleepers...you go through them like crazy due to either wet or poo...it just happens...the diaper genie was a nightmare...we just carried the poopie diapers to the trash can in the garage...much simpler and cheaper.  I would say 10 to 12 sleepers is not even close to over doing it...you can go through 4 to 5 a day depending on how their diapers hold...I went to wal-mart and bought the kind that came 3 in a pack for like 10.00...they grow out of them so fast, and I did not care about them being from wal-mart when we were just at home...who cares...just so they are soft and comfy for baby :)

Get the Happiest baby on the Block DVD and a swaddle (I liked the Kiddopotamus swaddle).

Don't bother with an ear thermometer, you doc will want to know rectal temp and honestly a digital rectal thermometer is way easier than trying to stick something in a squirming baby's ear.

I liked the sleep gowns/wearable blankets that are closed on the end, their feet end up sticking out of the open ones and get cold. of course, if you swaddle for sleeping, that isn't an issue.

A crib wedge - so many babies have reflux and even if they don't elevating the head of the bed is still good for them.

A mirror to mount by the changing station, they love to look in the mirror while getting changed.

A mirror for the back seat of the car that lets you see the baby.

I also loved the baby bathtub we go, it has a sling for when they're very tiny so you aren;t tryig to hold them up in the sink and it easily fits over the kitchen sink so you can bathe them while standing up:  http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2403667

The things I love, boppy, swing, miracle blanket (not any other brand works as well, its a bit pricey, but SOOOO worth it), bouncy and sling! I could not live without those items (well, alteast  I could not eat a hot meal or go to the bathroom without some of them LOL)

Boppy pillow is also great for bottle feeding. I have a bad back so resting him on it helped alot.

Plenty of sleepers and they are so cute.

I mentioned the tub earlier, they do have the ones that fit right in the sink with a drain plug.

Back seat car mirror, I have the one that lights up with a little visor remote.
