Gestational Diabetes
I had gastric bypass in sep. '07. I was told it was pretty much impossible for me to get diabetes since I've had my surgery.
26 weeks pregnant with my second baby girl-
1st was pre-op in '05 ; premature at 30 weeks.
I took my glucose test a few days ago, My dr. came back with high results. I have to go in again to take a 3hr one with twice the yucky drink stuff.
anyone have to do this?
did you get diabetes when prego, if so- how did it go?
Any info on the subject would be great.
Thanks!

your ob is wrong.
andrea knows them all maybe she will see this and chime in but I know that some do the post prandial, I did a week of finger *****ing at home, and there are others. you do NOT have to drink that sugar drink and its results cannot be relied upon.

1) you CAN have GD after RNY.
2) The GTT isn't accurate in us because we don't have a pyloric valve
Call your office, explain the lack of a pyloris, and ask to retake the regular test as a post paradinal test instead. It's a fasting draw, a normal breakfast (with some carbs, some fats, some proteins), then a draw in 2 hours. They can see how your body is metabolizing the food.

I do know you can have GD even with WLS.
I was GD with my first pregnancy but I was PRE-Op.
With my 2nd pregnancy (my first POST-Op), I failed the 1 hour GTT. I passed the 3 hour GTT with flying colors.
This is my 3rd pregnancy (second POST-Op), I failed the 1 hour GTT but passed the 3 hour again with flying colors.
