Maybe pregnant?
Hi all! I had gastric bypass on May 7, 2009, and i've struggled with normal cycles and stuff for yeras, never really menstrated on my own except with medication.
I am down 125 lbs since February and I'm six months post op.
About a month and a half ago my doctor put me on a low dose of birth control to start me having normal cycles. I started bleeding three days into takeing it and didn't stop for five weeks. I ended up in the emergency room at one point slightly anemic and lightheaded. THey then put me on Provera for 21 days to stop the bleeding and then after the 21 days have what they called "a medication induced DNC" to clean everything out and start over.
The 21 days ended on November 14th, I have not started bleeding at all and haven't had a period since.
During the last month my husband and I haven't been careful with a second method of birth control. We havne't used birth control prior to my surgery for seven years and I've never been pregnant.
Well for the last couple of weeks off an on I've been feeling nauseious at random times, sometimes when I'm eating or out of the blue, I've kind of written it off as due to the surgery.
I've also been lightheaded when I stand up or move around a lot which has only been happening the last couple of weeks.
I took a pregnancy test on Saturday the 28th and it was negative, so I put the thought out of my head..... until....
Last night I got home and went to change and when I took my bra off my breats hurt so much, my nipples were very senstive and they ached most of the evening (I have never exeperienced this before even with periods)
Also the last four days I've had really mucousy clear discharge it large amounts that it not something I've ever really experienced either.
I'm wondering what people think I should do, take another test? Go to the Doctor? I do and don't want to be pregnant, it's too early since surgery, but at the same time I've thought for so long I wouldn't be able to have children, that it would be such a blessing.
What did other people feel when they found out? Early symptoms?
Thanks
Jenn

It sounds like you might be...but it might be to early for it to show up on a test... when was ur period due around? I am out early as well and we were only using condoms and still got pregnant with twins none the less... I'd take another test first thing in the morning... if still neg... wait another week and try again if you period dont come... With my daughter one week i took a test and neg... then waiting another week and it was pos. I just had that feeling I was. best of luck and keep us posted...
Jenn- I would def. take another test. When I realized I was pregant I was only 3 1/2 months out, in October. For me it started with feeling nauseious at times I normally wouldn't after the surgery...so I took a test with first morning urine and sure enough pregnant. Since its been a few days your HCG should have gone up if you are pregnant and the test would pick it up.
Either way, good luck to you! See you in class tonight, lol.

We can't really tell you if you are pregnant or not. Only a test would be able to tell you that.
However, with all of the drugs you've been on you could be experiencing pregnancy like symptoms because you are ovulating.
I'd first test with an HPT and if it is still negative get a blood draw for an hcg count. If still negative then you could be experiencing what most young women experience which is normal hormones readying your body for a possibly pregnancy. If your hormones are regulating enough then you should be able to get pregnant soon. If you and your doctor don't want to get pregnant then make sure you use your protection. :)

Hi Jenn,
I think there is a fairly good chance you are PG...I got pregnant with my last child after a progesterone withdrawal trying to "regulate" my periods. Something a lot of docs forget is that birthcontrol pills are not really the recommended form of birth control for post WLS patients as we have absorption issues, and there is no way to tell how much of them you are really absorbing. My surgeon told me if I used the pill I HAD to use a 2nd form of BC as well. I chose the Depo shot...which I hated, but it worked..a little too well...when I tried to get pregnant after coming off of it, had no luck even with Clomid...at that point after having 8 children, we decided it was best to just stop and so I had my tubes tied. There are days when I still regret that decision...hard to describe my feelings on it, as I am so blessed already, but sometimes I still wonder "what if"!
IF you are not already pregnant, I would definitely consult your surgeon before you actively try to get pregnant this early out. The normal recommendation is to wait 12 to 18 months before trying to get pregnant. If you are already pregnant, there is not a thing you can do about it now, and all babies are a blessing, and lots of women have healthy babies very early out of WLS, it just requires diligence with diet and vitamins.
I would recommend POAS again today and then again in a week. If still no fever, I would go get an HCG blood draw. If that is neg, then I would do what I said above and consult docs before actively trying to get pregnant.
I certainly understand being a little "careless" about BC when you were never able to get pregnant before, but it does seem that WLS has made it a lot easier for many women to get pregnant...so I would not be surprised if you are already!!!
Good Luck, many blessings, and I hope you get the answer you are hoping for!
