Smelly belly button and Update

Hi Ladies..,

How's it going?  Thought I would pop in and post a little update.  All is going ok with my pregnancy.  Went to Vegas on 11/12-11/15 and had a good time.   Didn't win big... =(  Oh well.  I am a little over 14 wks now (depending on which U/S you go by)  I saw the hematologist about my Protein C Activity results and he isn't recommending anything other than the asprin therapy at this time... oh and he wants me to take 325mg of Iron 3x a day.  He is hoping to get some of it absorbed.  After baby is born, more than likely I will be getting infusions.

I am still working 2 jobs.. well I guess 3 now.  I started my own Pampered Chef business.  Hoping to make something of it, so I can quit my waitressing job.

I am not happy with my OB/GYN's office right now.  I have been with them for 5 years now and love my doctor.  The nursing staff however leaves me not happy.  I missed my appt the day I was at the hematologist because they Hemo took too long.  They told me to call the next day and reschedule.  I wanted to get them all done in 1 day because the hemo and ob are near each other, but both are 45-1hr away from my work or home.  Anyway, called OB office and left message w/ nurses station.  Told them I needed to reschedule and that I wanted to see what else I could do for my herniated disc pain.  My back isn't bothering me, it is a nerve that runs down my leg.  I have a herniated L5 disc and it irritates a nerve on my left leg.  I was doing fine with just tylenol occaisionally, but since my Vegas trip it has been bothering me more and more.  It aches and I can't sit for long periods of time.

Well, left that message 20 mins after the office opened.  No one had called back by 1:30 and they close at 3:30... so I called them.  I wanted to get an appt so I could let my boss know and see what else I could do or take.  So nurse makes appt... and then says she doesn't know if the Dr. (not my normal doc) will call me in anything because I missed my appt the day before, because I was at the Hemo and the nurse TOLD me to stay there and finish that appt and call the next day.

So she says she will have the Dr. look at my chart.  No one calls me back.  The next day I call them at 11:30 and they say the Dr. doesn't feel comfortable prescribing anything... and I ask why no call back to let me know that.  She says well doc didn't look at chart until morning.  Ok, so 3 hours isn't enough time to call me back and let me know this??   Nurse gets snippy and I said, that is fine, I will discuss the communication failure with Doc.

Go to see another Doc in the practice for my appt and she has an emergency at the hospital and has to leave.  I have to see the Nurse Prac.  I address my concerns,  tell her I made an appt to see a Chiropractor, but I was very disheartened by the lack of attention to my needs.  She goes on about their patient volume... etc... and prioritizing.  Then she goes into not prescribing pain meds because if I have to use them long term that my baby will be born addicted to drugs and have to stay in the hospital longer.  Wow... what a way to try and make me feel like a drug addict.  I didn't even ask for meds.. I asked if there was anything else I could take or DO.  Hence the Chiropractor.  (even though it hasn't helped yet, still hopeful)

I was tempted to switch doctors, but I really like mine.  Plus, I like the hospital they deliver at.  Although, a closer hospital and office would be nice... but who's to say if the other office would be more attentive.

Oh... and does anyone elses belly button stink?  I swear everytime I get pregnant I get stink button.
=(    I told one of the docs about it last time with Syd and he kind chuckled and said "wa****".  LOL  DUH, of course I do.  I have to go in there with alcohol and clean it.  Sometimes it gets really sore and seems like there is fluid in it, too.  Anyone else have this? or am I an odd ball with a stinky belly button???

LOL

Hugs to all
B

I had a bad experience today at the Peds office.  Same thing... like the doctor but not a big fan of the nurses and staff.   The office is also very busy.   I decided today I'm switching Peds and going some place smaller.   Love that we have choices!

As far as the belly button... I have the same problem.  Glad I"m not the only one.   :)
I found the baby powder works the best.  It keeps it dry and from getting any moisture.

I have noticed the belly button thing too. I have used peroxided in it. I have always been too embarrassed to ask about. I go Thursday, so maybe I will get up the nerve to ask.

I used to get the stink button when I was really heavy.  It must just be the way your womb squishes your button and maybe you sweat more?  Sounds weird but seriously, washing it and using A&D ointment when it is sore helps a TON!

Usually the stinky belly button is due to yeast in there (very common) so just use some antifungal creme or powder (I prefer the powder to help dry it out).  It should be gone within a week.

Sorry I can't help on the OB's office issue..I don't go for my first appt with a new practice until next week and I'm praying I like them or else I'll have to find someone else.  I have fibro and joint pain issues myself and was on ultram 2-3 times a day.  I quit cold turkey when I found out I was pregnant last week and am going thought some terrible pain so I'm hoping the new doc will prescribe me something safer, but I do need something for the pain and if they treat me with disrespect or make me feel bad I'll find someone else, simple as that :)

Glad to see an update from you...I've been thinking about you for the last week or so.  I know the two (now three) jobs keep you busy, along with the kids, so you're not able to spend as much time with us...but don't be a stranger.

Even if you love your dr...you spend more time interacting w/the staff.  I'd at least check out drs closer to home - maybe one of them will use the same hospital your other dr does so you don't have all those changes at once?  Personally...I'd have been insulted at the other dr inferring you would have a drug addicted baby if you were to take pain meds for your back.  I know there must be non-harmful meds out there, as well as alternative treatments.  My husband had a herniated disk in his back from an injury that happened when I was 7 months pregnant w/my son (who's now 14 1/2). In Brussels (our last post), it started acting up worse than normal, pinching the sciatic nerve.  He went to an osteopath who did all sorts of twisting and popping of his body...and it helped considerably for a while.  He also did physical therapy to try to stretch everything out and get the pressure off the nerve.  That helped - didn't get rid of the pain but brought it to a tolerable level - for about a year, then it got worse again and they ended up doing surgery.  If there's any chance of finding an osteopath and/or physical therapist who will treat you while pregnant, it might be worth a try?

Good luck w/your pampered chef work.   It'd be good if you could get to making enough from that to give up the waitressing job.

I would be out of that practice.   I don't pay a **** ton in BCBS for Dr's to treat me like I'm a check mark on their patient roster.   Sorry Doc, you work for me, I pay your salary.   Assclowns!

And I thought the belly button thing was just me.  It's especially gross when I am getting out of the shower all nice and clean and up wafts that funk.

I have the belly button thing too. And not just when preggo. With all the extra "flub" I have, my belly button is more of a bottomless pit that I can't even figure out the shape of anymore.

I clean it, dry it with Q-tips to get moisture out, and still get sore and stank sometimes. I just assume it's something I will have to live with until I someday get a tummy tuck. LOL

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

I know someone else mentioned the yeast angle on the button stink....that's what mine always is.  I got a script for Nystatin cream from my MD, so whenever the stink pops up, I use that and it's ususally gone overnight...
