Bringing your oldest to the big ultrasound

I've known a few people who've brought their older child along to the ultra where they find out the baby's gender. I've been planning to bring my 6yo DD. I called to verify my appt time (this afternoon) and said "Oh, by the way, I'm bringing my six year old daughter... is that alright with you guys?"
My old OB (with my 6yo) allowed this... my step sis even brought her niece along.
The front desk lady put me on hold for a few minutes then came back with some bullcrap about the H1N1. My DD has been vaccinated and doesn't have the flu. I don't see why it matters. The way she said it made it sound COMPLETELY made up. The impression I got was that they just didn't want to have kids in the office.
The ultrasound room is HUGE... there's the bed and a stool by all the equipment then there's two big TVs that the ultra shows up on plus the equipment screen. There are FIVE chairs in this room... FIVE!
Can someone give me one logical reason why my DD shouldn't be allowed to come?
Either way, she's coming. I've already decided to tell them I couldn't get in touch with DH to tell him not to check her out of school and bring her (she's getting checked out 10 minutes before school is let out). Also, for reasons other than this, I start seeing my new OB on the 9th of December.

When I go for an ultrasound they leave it right in the confirmation voicemail. No one under 18 is allowed in the US room. It stinks but I guess they have a reason. There is also a rule now in my hospital no one under 18 allowed to visit because of the H1N1.
Don't be too surprised if they make you re-schedule.

My kids came with me to mine. But right now, Iknow alot of facilities are not allowing children in for the H1N1 reason. I had to have a abdominal ultrasound the other week, was going to drag my 12 year old along. He was only going to sit in the waiting area so we could go show shopping afterwards and they said no.
So although she may have been rude, I know it's standard at many places right now.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!
I have to disagree here. If it's the rule to not allow kids, it's the rule. I would hate to see someone show up expecting an ultrasound and have to wait and be rescheduled.
I work in a Doctors office and there's nothing more aggravating than patient who do not follow rules. We have rules for reasons. And for safety purposes. Remember, other preggo moms will be there and some may be high risk with immune issues or whatever. It's not fair to put them at risk.

If a rule is a rule, then fine... but if it's never posted anywhere then how is a patient supposed to know? If I hadn't specifically asked (which I only did because I was calling them anyways) then I wouldn't have known.
Turns out their office is fine with having kids, apparently the nurse who answered the question isn't fond of it but my doc and the lead nurse were surprised when I told them that the person on the phone told me no kids.

i can understand your disappointment...but its the rules...plain and simple...they arent letting anyone...dont take it personal.... most doctors and hospitals now have that rule...its for safety and there is a reason. be glad its for a one time doctors appointment. i know when i give birth in a few weeks my children wont be able to come visit me after my csection (4 days)... it is what it is...
Hi,
I know it's frustrating, but it's true what she said. I called yesterday to make my first ob appt. and they told me a couple of times that children under the age of 14 aren't allowed until the flu season is over with because of the H1N1. Which will be a bummer since my US will still be in that time frame and I wanted my youngest to be there as well. It's not like they are going to make her sit out in the waiting room by herself so I am sure you won't have any problem.
good luck and hope all turns out great!
