Hi,

Does anyone know how much is too much when it comes to vitamin supplements post surgery and pregnant?

Im 17 months out from Lap RNY. Ive been taking a regimen of vitamins from Building Blocks since day 1 post surgery since they are the ones my doctor suggested. In the past 3 months I've hardly missed a dose (have to take 3x a day). I'm 9 weeks pregnant. I contacted the Building Blocks company to see if they were safe to take while pregnant. They said yes but the dose may change that I should consult my doctor. Well, I would if I had insurance and could go for a visit. I wasn't able to go back for my 1 year check up either. Anyway, I digress, Im trying to determine on my own if I should add a prenatal vitamin or if that would be over kill. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Ps.. I do know consulting my doc is the best way to go and that any answers I receive are based on personal experience etc.

Thanks!!

I was taken off my 2 centrums a day and it was replaced with 2 prenatals a day. Something about the Vitamin A and if you get too much can be toxic to baby but the prenatals use a different form of A that is almost impossible to be toxic. I just take a generic Rite Aid brand...and it is a small pill compared to all others I have seen but yet still has the same stats.

hello!  I take a prenatal and extra calcium and b-12 with a b complex.  Make sure whatever you are taking has a Vitamin A that is beta carotene only, not acetate or any other artificial vitamin A

congrats!

Hi there,
what do you take for calcium?  All mine have expired and I was trying to find some at Wal-Mart but it looks like they quit selling what I used to buy.

Thanks,
Bambi

hi, I got mine at pathmark it's a calcium citrate pill with 1000mg of calcium in each.  I take two a day.  They are pretty big so I have to cut them in half.  I've seen similar ones at BJ's and costco, they are generic brand names but work great.
