a couple questions

Thanks in advance ladies

1) is gas-x OK to take? I will call the OB as well but don't want to bother the Dr on call with that on a sunday night.

2) constipation - ok to take colace as needed right? constipation sucks!

3) the embarassing question - is a lube OK to use while preggo? I am 15 weeks and  well sex the last 2 times was a bit uncomfortable. Wondering if maybe this wouldn't help.

On an exciting note - I am pretty sure that I've felt my first few flutters! I can pick up the baby's heartbeat on the doppler fairly well now but only for a few seconds because it is a squiggly little thing!

Thanks ladies for always listening to the crazy questions!

I was told colace was fine. The stool softener only, nothing with a stimulant in it. I do not know on the other two, sorry.

Dont know about Gas-X, but I was told Colace stool softener was ok and KY was ok for lube up until I lost my mucus plug.  (and by then...was soooo not interested in sex anyway!) lol Best wishes.

Gas-X (Simethicone)  is a class C drug :

  • Studies on animals show adverse effect and toxicity on fetus.
  • No adequate and well controlled studies done on pregnant women.
  • Drugs should be given only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
That being said - my OB said it was fine in moderation (and occasionally I HAD to take it!).

(Above info from safefetus.com)

We used lube the entire pregnancy (KY) and I never thought twice about it.....   So I hope it's okay !  It'll be interesting to see what others say about the lubing.

Yay for baby flutters !!!  Very exciting!

Take Care,

Cindy

OB told me Gas-X is fine.  It has saved my life on a few occasions.  Have never used lube but I seem to remember some one said something on here once about only certain kinds are ok with pregnancy.  Oh and colace is what I was told.  It upset my tummy a few times but over all work well.  Very gentle.  Good luck!

I, unfortunately, lived on Gas-x for most of my pregnancy.  I got gas so bad I was in tears and didn't want to move.  It sucked!!  I never took a stool softener, although I am sure I could have used it a few times.  I used the glycerin suppositories and that stuff worked like a charm in a matter of a minute or two.  Also, I heard that eating a pickle a day can help with constipation, just be careful because of the sodium.  Something about the vinegar and your bowels.

When I was in the hospital with the triplets (almost six weeks) they gave me three pills every morning, 1 colace, 1 simithcone (gas x) and my prenatal. And I took both Gas X and colace on several occasions while preggo with Matty. I was told that Lube was ok, but to make sure that it was a water based product (the same kind that is safe during TTC is good for pregnancy too).
