Birth Story

As many people saw on facebook I was having contractions for about 3 days or so starting quite badly on November 18th. By Saturday the 21st I decided to walk the mall a few hours then go to a movie. Stopped to eat and came home for a shower. By 10 pm on the 21st the contractions were about every 3-4 minutes. Then they swicthed from front to back and stayed in my back. I told my husband it was time to go cause I was not going to be able to take them in my back. I had that twice already. Got in at 1130 and stayed in triage from 1130 to 7 the next morning with contractions every 3-4 minutes but would not dialate past 3. They gave me morphine and two bags of fluid to see if they would stop and yet they would not. So at 7 the chief of OB came and asked what I wanted to do since the baby could still have problems being 3 weeks. I told her 3 days was enough and I was ready to get this done. So I went over to a labor room and was started on pitocin at 9 am. I told them my body would not dialate without and epidural and they said they still wanted to wait till I got to 4 cm. I said ok but I dont think it will happen. So by 12 no change and contractions were getting really bad and always in my back. They decided to try an IV med to see if that would help with pain but if anyone has had back labor nothing works to help. By 1 they told me the contractions were still not registering and that they did not understand why I was in so much pain. Funny I felt I was dying. So then everytime I would say it was hurting Hayvanns heart would drop from 160's into the 30's and 40's. So they knew I was having them then. They just did not register. Problem was when I got the shot through my Iv I was starting to have hallucinations and all and could not focus and they thought it was a reaction. Once Hayvanns heart kept going down and both of our oxygen was down they had to use the shot of t something to stop my contractions. This after trying to break my water at 2. Contractions got worse. The about 330 or 4 they came and prepped me for surgery. Could not find a second IV spot after 12 tries. Finally got one in right next to the first one. Got shaved and prepped and signed consent for emergency c section. Within about 20 minutes the shot to stop contractions worked. So they then decided to give the epidural at 540 pm. By 6 I was very happy. Felt no pain. It was awesome. By 625 I started feeling it again and knew I had already dialated and was ready. Nurse came in and I was 9 1/2 cm and they said tell us when you feel pressure. 5 minutes later I called her back and she said it may be about 15 minutes we are in shift change. OMG!!!!!! So I did a few little pushes cause it only feels better while pushing. The nurse came in at 648 and felt and said oh my you are ready we have no time. He yelled in the hallway and noone came to help him push me out. My husband and dad said we will help get her down the hallway. Luckily a nurse was in the hall once we got out there and said she was helping. Got in delivery with my dad at my head and hubby at side and they were removing cath and prepping bed as the nurse and hubby were counting for me. 4 pushes and Hayvanns head was out. Cord wrapped around neck twice. So the doc said stop pushing but I was not and she came out. Luckily they put fingers between cord and neck and delivered her using their elbows. Dad said that was cool. She screamed right away. They took her away for a second and my husband said wait she wants to hold her. Nurse said give a second we have to check oxygen then we will bring her right over. They did right away. This was my first baby I held at delivery. Both of my boys were taken away so quick cause they were sick. It was awesome. My dad was shocked at how quick it was and all I could do was cry.

Now had they given me the epidural when I told them I needed it then my labor would have been done and over with hours before but they thought they knew best. HAHA!! For 3 hours though after the pain shot I can only remember voices and all cause I was having a reaction to the shot and the pain. SO I did not know who was in the room I just know I was rolling side to side and the room was full of docs and nurses. They had me on hands and knees a few times. It was not fun and I dont even know what I was saying or half of what was said to me. I know it hurt but that was all. The great thing is that my baby girl got here safe and sound. We are both healthy and happy and things are going awesome. Yes I say I would never have another one but golly gee I sure would as I look at her and know she was worth each and every second of what happened and that my worry was her and how it was affecting her.

I hope to be on more soon but baby Hayvann has jaundice and I have to get her to eat as often as possible and since my milk has come in I can tell when she needs to eat. :) Keeps me busy right now.

Congrats! It just amazes me how they do not think we know our own bodies. I am glad you and her are doing well.

Wow. I think the doctors sometimes have a big head and don't want to listen to us, when we know our bodies best. You knew you needed that epidural! Well, I'm glad everything turned out good.

WOW I am so glad you didn't need a c-section!!  What a story!  Your daughter is absolutely beautiful!! Congrats!

Great story !  Glad Baby Hayvann is doing well -- both my niece and nephew were jaundiced and it passed easily enough.  (They had to lay on lights)

Can't wait to see more pictures !!

Every time I see a new picture of Cooper...I think the next one couldn't be better...then you up and post an even better one of him!  Love the santa hat...and the huge grin.

OMG! You have labor and delivery like me!!! Back labor so bad you are dying, but they don't pick them up on the monitor and they want to send you home..... then after the epidural my body dialtes really fast and I just "know" 2 pushes later and my kid is in the world!

Congrats Shannyn!!  What a miracle!!  Cant wait to see the baby pictures.  Try to get plenty of rest even though thats kind of impossible and just take it easy when possible...LOL!  Love ya and Congrats again for you bundle of joy!!
