Results of u/s and serious question for you moms
Now the question. My ultrasound took about an hour and a half to do because she wouldn't cooperate. I even have to go back for a follow-up because they did not get good pictures of many things. But I was sent up to gentic counseling....they couldn't find her nasal bridge/bone. They say this is a marker for down syndrome. Now I've already decided that I am going to have her no matter what but I am so scared...and I am not sure. The woman who does the amino test told me if I wanted I could wait until after they re-do my ultrasound on December 7th (just in case it was a mistake) and she recommends I do.
Have any of you ladies every been told the same thing? She told me not to stress to much because all of my other markers were good including all my screenings and this is the only thing they are basing their concern off of. I even googled the hell out of what the bone should look like and I can see it in my 12 week ultrasound pics...but the technician clearly said it could not be found this time and not that it was just small...so that makes me question if it was just because she wasn't behaving to start wit. I am just soooo scared and nervous and lost.

Question though...if you don't mind, what marker did you have come up? I have been searching for information of the nasal bridge one and not much is coming up...it seems to be new. The heart was fine, the brain awesome, so were the bones, and the kidneys. So it worries me that this is all they are going off of.

As far as the risk on DS. I had 2 friends that were told their baby's would be born with downs based on all the "Screenings" and both babies are perfect. They are just SCREENINGS not tests that are a final determination. I would imagine that since all looked OK at your last US that she just missed something. Also - did the OB or the high risk Dr take a look at the US or just the tech?
*hugs* I am sure that all will be just fine!

I just worry that I am scared for nothing and this is all a false alarm. I mean they were having trouble getting pictures of most things and thats why I have to go back. Also I was only dating 18 weeks on the spot and they won't do anatomical scans until you are 18 weeks on the spot. And they clearly were stating it WAS NOT there and I can see it on my 12 week scan...so it is there. Might be small...which is still a problem...but it IS there. So thats already an error. I guess I'll just wait for my results from my quad scan and if anything comes back off with that i'll get the the amnio but if not, I'll assume she just has a small nose like mama.

When expecting my now 8yr old, the 18wk u/s showed only 2 of the 4 heart chambers. His HB was erratic at times and the tech told me that his heart didn't *appear* to be developing properly. I was told to come back in 2 weeks for another u/s. 2 weeks?! Internet searches yielded terrifying scenarios and scared the **** out of me to the point I was ill. I was stupid to have looked there. Anyway, I called my OB two days later and explained how scared and distraught I was. He did another u/s that week and everything was fine.
Soooo, while I don't have a medical degree, I can assure you that u/s results are not always accurate. The position of the baby, the amount of fluid, the amount of fat on mom, the tech's experience, the clarity of the machine, the interpretation of the tech - these are all factors that influence results.
So my advice is to get another u/s and take it from there. In all of my pregnancies, the u/s's have shown different results at different times and by different techs. It's not an accurate science still.

As far as the down syndrome is concerned, like everyone said you cannot diagnose downs from an ultrasound. Did you have your blood work done at 16 weeks for down syndrome? I would get the anmio if your worried, I'm sure everything will be just fine!!
