What do you think?
I have my high risk OB appt on Dec 2. I have to get my stupid glocose tolerance test in the next month or so. I've been TRYING to explain to my regular OB that I have reactive hypoglycemia and my sugar WILL crash before the hour wait period from the time I drink the test stuff.
Also I know people do the fasting thing where they eat a large breakfast then get tested, but I know know know my sugar will plummet between breakfast and the blood test.
Perfect example. Yesterday morning I ate 1/2 of a large bagel with cream cheese. About 30 minutes later I started feeling only SLIGHTY dizzy, meaning I've felt wayyy worse before with my low sugar. I took my blood sugar level and it was 35!!!!! That's pretty damn low. Now I've seen my sugar at a 15 before (pre pregnancy), but I FELT it big time. This time, I barley felt dizzy. I know I need to watch my sugars now more than ever, they have been under control, more or less during this pregnancy, I've never seen them at a 35 the whole time.
Is there a way I can refuse the test? I don't want to be annoying about it, but honestly, if my blood sugar is 35 and I just barley feel it after a half of a bagel there is no way I'm going to be able to do one of those tests.

Karen - bagels do it to me everytime - it's called reactive hypoglycemia - I was told to always balance my carbs and protein - that keeps it from happening.
That being said tell them you refuse the drink and the 2 hour test. Since you test your sugar anyway tell them that you will test before meals and 1 hour after for a week or 2 - that should satisfy them.

I refuse to poke my fingers any more since they have convinced themselves that I'm diabetic based on a few off readings (when i explained what I ate and it made sense). I've since switched ob's and they are going to run some blood test on wednesday and let me know what i need to do for the rest of my pregnancy.

There is no reason on earth to do the glucola drink from hell. Not only is it hell for a RNY patient's system, it is questionable as to how accurate it truly is for us since we have no pyloric valve to regulate the sugar hitting the small intestine.
There are a few options --
An a1c blood test -- which tests the blood's "memory," for lack of a better term of the average blood sugar.
Daily blood sugar monitoring at home with a glucometer
A 2-hour post-paradinal test -- which is a fasting blood draw, then a full breakfast, and then 2 hours later a draw again.
Random blood serum glucose tests to monitor trends.
Which brings up your breakfast from a fellow reactive hypoglycemic -- if I had a bagel, I'd be on the floor with numbers of 35 as well. You need to have a great deal more protein as your base for your meals. Yes, you need carbs to avoid ketosis.. this is vital, yes. But you've gotta keep enough protein going as well to keep your sugars stable. Also, avoid simple carbs like white bagels. Even whole wheat bagels are pretty much simple sugars. Perhaps some egg, or bacon, ham, or cheese would have helped keep your numbers stable longer.
I've been in your shoes -- it's hard, and it sucks. Good luck.

Just wanted to suggest that you stay away from simple carbs. If you have a bagel with cream cheese, make sure that it is not a white bagel. The cream cheese should slow the digestive process down. Protein first, veggies, fruit, complex carbs - real, whole foods without processing is the only approach that will keep your hypoglycemia in check. Small meals 5/6 times per day or 3 meals, 2 healthy snacks.
