Calling for Christmas Traditions
We have lots of family traditions in my house and some still at my parents lol.... Every year xmas morning we bake 1 fresh batch of cookies for santa.... We didnt have a fireplace at one time so my mom got and old skeleton key from a hardware store and tied a ribbon loop on it. we leave this on the door knob xmas eve. It is Santas "magic" key so he can get in. We also sprinkle oatmeal and rasins on the lawn so that the reindeers can eat.... My mom and dad would cut out a shoe print from card stock as a template and sprinkle baby powder on the template to make santa snow tracks through the house... messy but vac**** right up and smells good lol. we also got to open one gift from my parents at night which was our xmas pj's ... we also open our gifts to each other xmas eve. Dad always reads the night before xmas.... when we got older we always went to midnight mass together.... xmas morning my sisters and i would always have left over spiniach dip for breakfast (mom always sends us home with some for breakfast now) We go to my aunts for dinner, boys watch football, girls watch christmas story marathon on tbs and home movies... long way home to check out the xmas lights....

No offense, and I'm sorry for your loss, but be thankful that your Christmas will be so easy going.
Here's my holiday routine:
December 23rd: Visit with DHs dad and that side of the family... usually on the other side of Atlanta.
December 24th: Visit my MIL who drives everyone batty and insists on doing insane stuff like each person opening their gifts while everyone sits and watches... oh and lets not even talk about the DISGUSTING food. After that I get to travel two hours south to visit with my dad and his side of the family. This I do enjoy but the four hour round trip on Christmas Eve is a drain.
December 25th: Rush to have christmas morning with my own family (DH, me, DD), get DD glammed up and ready to go, then head two hours north through the mountains to visit with my mom and that side of the family.
Roughly 450 miles in 2.5 days that are supposed to be relaxing and enjoyable. Oh the things I would give to stay home and actually enjoy Christmas the way I'd like to enjoy it. Hell I'd be happy if I only had to attend two family gatherings. I won't even complain about the 40 person long list of people I have to buy for because only one group will agree on drawing names. I don't even like half these people yet I have to drive all over Georgia when I wish I could be sitting by a warm fire in my pajamas watching Christmas movies while my DD plays with her new toys and tries on all her new clothes.
Now non-complaint stuff LOL:
One tradition I love is getting our Christmas tree. Since we bought our own house we get a real tree. The three of us go out and pick one together.
We allow DD to open one gift from us on Christmas eve.
We do the whole leave cookies out for santa.
DH and I light a fire and have some wine and sweets while we drag out DDs santa loot and assemble, arrange, etc. We usually have a Monster energy drink or two in the process since we don't get home until super late due to all of the driving.
We read 'The Night Before Christmas' to DD before bed... even if it is super late.
You could cook a nice meal for the three of you on Christmas Day. Instead of doing a turkey (since that would be a TON of food for so few people) you could get a rotisserie chicken or really you could cook whatever you want. I love cooking big dinners. Go all out. Go to the dollar store and get some festive plates, glasses, napkins, candles for the table, etc.

These are our family traditons:
The first weekend in December we go get the tree and put it up and the whole family decorates it. We also drag out all the other decorations and put the lights up outside and really just make it look like Christmas threw up in our house! lol. My boys have a countdown calendar that they do every morning and they really enjoy that.
Christmas Eve I bake cookies for Santa, but the boys get to cut out all the shapes. We have something nice but simple for dinner and then, if the boys have been good, they get to open one present each from Mommy & Daddy. Usually it's Christmas PJ's which they put on and then we go drive around and look at Christmas lights. Then it's off to bed for them and my night really gets started, because I wrap EVERYTHING on Christmas Eve. Every year I say I'm going to start early, but every year it's me and a pair of scissors until 2AM or so! Their dad and I also exchange gifts after they're asleep, because we want the next morning to be all about them.
Christmas morning they wake us up bright and early exclaiming over what Santa has brought them, because Santa doesn't wrap his presents. Then we all get up, I make something simple for breakfast, and we have hot chocolate while daddy hands out gifts to the boys. After presents we do a big cleanup and then the boys are free to play with all their new toys while I prepare Christmas dinner. We have about 20 people coming this year, and that's the usual size of the crowd, but even if we didn't have that many people coming I would still make a full, traditional holiday spread. Once the guests are fed we have another round of present opening and then I send everyone the heck home because I'm tired!!!
I have to take the week after Christmas off from work just to recover my sanity!

Oh, I forgot to mention something... we like to build a gingerbread house. The kits are nice but building one using your imagination is more fun.
