My brother used his even for his boys after they walked to "baby sit" them while he went to the bathroom.  LOL.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Try a walker. DD was walking when she was 7 months old, so IMO a walker at 5mo isn't too soon.

You could also try those stationery play things that look sort of like a walker but have a floor in them. They also make one that's a walker but it only has three wheels so they just go in circles. I'm laughing just imagining a little baby walking around in circles LOL. Imagine the frustration.

If neither of those options work and all else fails, you could put him in his high chair an give him something to play with.

I heard somewhere that those jump-up things that hang in the doorway can cause brain damage... but I'm not sure how true that is. My DD LOVED that thing. She'd never get bored bouncing around.

If you can find one, old school play pens are huge and provide lots of room for babies to play. The new style pack-n-plays are so tiny, I can't imagine a little one doing anything but standing on the side and screaming (or just taking a nap). They seem more like portable cribs than something a baby could actually play in. With the older model ones (which they might still make... I was able to buy one with DD 6 years ago), they're just so big and great for containment while you're cooking or cleaning.

Your daughter walked at 7 months old ??  Or walking in a walker....

I can't imagine a 7month old walking....but I bet it's cute cute cute !

I agree about the playpens....the Pack 'N' Play we have I cannot imagine keeping him in for long.  We had much bigger ones when we were kids!

If you're on a budget (who isn't?) check your local consignment stores. Not sure how popular these types of stores are elsewhere, but around where I live you can find them pretty easy. They sell gently used baby gear. A good store will check to see if items brought to them have been recalled or not, so you don't have to worry about that. They can get in serious trouble if they get busted selling recalled stuff.

You can get gently used stuff for more than 50% less than you'd pay in the store. I got a really nice walker for $25.

Good idea!  I love the used kid's stores around here.  I bet they have a lot of walkers.

Thanks again,

If you're on a budget, I second the bumbo tray, they attach really well! Otherwise an exersaucer woluld work well also. I just got an awesome one from Craigslist for Rowan.

The funny thing is I HAVE a tray !  Duh.  I can't believe I didn't think about it.

I don't use it usually - but it would work.  I am going to try it tomorrow AM as I'm cooking breakfast!!

Thank you!

I will check Craigslist too for stuff....  We did buy our first item from there the other day (A train toybox) and it was a great deal!

Rowan loves to have the tray on his, you can put a few toys on it for him to play with and they don't get dropped on the floor so easily.

I would lay him on the floor on his belly, of course with a blanket under him. It will be great tummy time for him. My youngest hated being on his belly, but after a while he got over it.

Cooper HATES tummy time -- probably why he doesn't roll over yet !!

I know I should push the issue more often.... Maybe I will and it will serve dual purposes.

Thanks!
