Just found out - I'm pregnant!
Hubby and I are ectatic! We couldn't be happier.
I just wanted to come over and introduce myself and hopefully get some answers to questions I might have in the future for those of you who have already been blessed with little ones.
My name is Maurie - I had RNY May 19, 2008.
So... right off the top of my head..
Appetite - out of control - trying to make good choices, I haven't had any weird cravings, just always hungry. I'm guessing that's normal...
I have had morning sickness off and on - but, never in the morning.. LOL
I'm 40 and this is my first child, so I'm a high risker - any advise on what to be diligent about?
I haven't had my first OB visit yet because I just found out and need a referral to see one. I went to the Family Practice Dr. and she confirmed that I am indeed pregnant, but didn't have a guess as to how far along. So, I went to the the million websites that calculate your due date and from what I can tell - I'm 7 weeks along.
Any good websites or books I should check out?
Thanks for taking the time to read this - any information/advise will be greatly appreciated.
Oh... did I say I was EXCITED?!! I AM! :o)

Hello Maurie and congratulations!!!
Our surgeries were just a few months apart and our weight (starting and current) is almost the same too!
1) Appetite: Eating small meals throughout the day is actually preferable, so you're already doing the best thing you can. I found I needed to carry snacks with me or else I would wait too long and be famished by the time I ate (which can make you sick and/or make for bad food choices)
2) Morning sickness: Thankfully you only have it during one part or small parts of the day. I hope this continues for you
3) I was 37 when I had my last baby. Advanced Maternal Age, to be exact. Just remember, we are in better health being older and of normal weight than we were younger and obese. Besides, 40 isn't old by today's standards
4) Recommendations: I would recommend having your labs drawn regularly (every 2-3 months). Be sure to add folic acid, extra calcium and a very good chewable or prenatal vitamin. Your labs will indicate what you need to increase or watch. Complex carbs are helpful if you are still losing weight rapidly, but in standard amounts are also good for fiber and keeping you satiated. Try to increase your fluids as much as possible. I always relied on "What to Expect When You're Expecting" - a pretty good month-by-month pregnancy guide.
This forum was a lifeline for me during my pregnancy. Lots of experience, support and wisdom here. Ask questions of us, or PM if there's something you need help with. I look forward to sharing in your journey.
Hugs,
