With my daughter they induced me... and so I was in the hospital and I got up to use the rest room... and after I wiped and stood up I felt like I peed myself a tiny bit on the floor... The nurse told me not to worry about it she would clean it up... So I walked back into my room and climbed into bed... Next thing I knew my water broke... the grossest thing I have ever felt in my life... So I had to climb out of bed and go clean myself up while they changed my bedding... I have no idea what to expect this time...lol

I have never had my water break on its own but my girl friend did. She was asleep and woke up thinking she wet the bed.

I was getting my bag packed to go be induced.

I was headed for the bathroom and felt like I may have peed a little. Not entirely unusual considering I was hugely pregnant. I could tell I was finished going pee but fluid was still coming out in a steady stream just like I was still going. It wasn't the same though. I could barely feel the fluid coming out but it was there for sure. I thought it all came out and got up, but when I started walking it started coming out more. DH finished getting my stuff while I sat on the toilet lol. I walked into L&D wearing wet pants with DHs jacket tied around my waist because that stuff was still slowly coming out and my pants were soaked.

I always imagined it would be like a gush... or at least it would all come out at once. I wish.

I was very disappointed mine didn't break on its own.

I was 6 days overdue when I went into labor and the doc ended up breaking it to speed things up (and avoid drugs).

I wanted it to break in the grocery store -- you know - where everyone stops and stares then someone yells "Get some clean cloths and boil some water" and I'm laying on the ground grunting and laboring..... hrm.... maybe that's only in movies and books?

I hope next time I am pregnant my water breaks in some dramatic fashion!

I had a very slow leak.  Hannah's head was very low and acting like a cork.   At first it was only a teaspoon or so, which my doc and I both chalked up to pregnancy bladder.  After about a week the volume increased.   I knew for sure it had broke while I was at walmart.  I was putting the shopping cart back in the return and felt a gush.   I lost probably about a cup of water that time.
I continued to constantly lea****il I went to L&D.     If you do think your water has broke wear a maxi pad. They can check the pad to tell if it's urine or amniotic fluid.

I've had two pregnancies and my water only broke with my first. It broke at 33 weeks and with a great big GUSH! I was sleeping and it woke me up in total shock. I thought I pee'd myself but there was entirely too much fluid and it just kept coming. It turns out that our son did not have a fully formed esophagus so he wasn't swallowing any of the fluid like a baby normally would. Because of this I had an over-abundance of amniotic fluid, so much so, my belly just couldn't hold anymore and it just burst! I remember that I soaked two full sized swimming towels and them sat on one on the way to the hospital with two huge sanitary pads and soaked right through those two. The fluid was unreal.

Now with my second pregnanct, I went to 36 1/2 weeks when I started contracting and went into labor. My water never broke. They broke it in the hospital and when they did, it was nearly nothing compared to the amount of fluid I had my first pregnancy.

Both pregnancies were boys, and boy number three is on the way now. I have to say, having them break your water in the hospital is a much "cleaner" process, but I did like the fact that it happened naturally the first time, just far too early.

Mine broke at 38 weeks.  I was walking up the stairs and I felt like I had peed myself.  I changed my clothes sat down at the computer and I was wet again.  I got up walked into the bathroom and the water was running down my leg.  No big gush or anything.  If I laughed or coughed a huge gush would come but nothing like you see in the movies...LOL

At 39 weeks... I drank some castor oil (trying to induce myself.. lol) and it made me have diarrhea... BAD  (which is what its supposed to do).  But what made me do it at like 8 or 9 at night... I will NEVER know...

  anyways....
It cleaned me out and that makes your uterus contract as well because of all the "cleaning out". By about 2am I finally laid down to sleep (I was SO sick to my stomach) and I just kept getting up to go to the bathroom that at 3:45AM "It" started leaking out... I just KNEW it was my water and not that I had "peed on myself"...   So got ready anad went to hospital... contractions started very lightly on our way to hospital. THe nurses told me I had only peed on myself... and I told them NO...   so they looked under the microscope and it "ferned" which meant it was indeed my water.

Cant say that castor oil works everytime... but I think things have to be "ripe" in order for it to work. I wont be doing that this time though... lol

I actually just asked my OB, if the chances were higher or whatever that my water would break this time as well... and she said no and that only about 10% of a women water breaks on its on as the "inital symptom of labor"...

With my first three pregnancies my water did not break on its own.  With my fourth pregnancy I was sitting down on the couch with a plate of el pollo loco chicken and tortillas and whoosh, flood all over the couch.  Thank god for my little green clean machine LOL.  I had big blue pads that we had gotten for my incontinent dog to lay on so I just sat on those.  Filled many of them up several times before the babies head kind of plugged the opening and then would get gooshes when I would move and his head would "unseal".  It was a new one for me but was excited that it was definitely the end of the pregnancy, I was just 37 weeks and so I knew they would have me deliver within 24 hours.  We did.  He was a beautiful 7 lb 3 oz boy.
