VSG - I'm not the only one. . .am I?!
YOu know, with as much as "they" stressed not getting pregnant before 1 year post-op, they were sure non-chalant about the news of me being pregnant. I was expecting such a lecture or warnings or at least cautions on what to watch out for or SOMETHING worse than "Well call us if you puke too much!" That is basically what the conversation boiled down to! They said I needed 1600-2000 calories typically for a pregnancy so to try and aim for that but to not stress over it, and then they added the vomiting side note.
THAT WAS IT!!!
With so little concern my worries flew out the window!
I don't think it's that big of a deal, especially if you are a good loser and have lost at least 50% of you EW or more. I know some doctors go based on your EW lost. Some insist on one losing close to 80% of their EW before TTC.
I'm normal, healthy and capable of eating and keeping it down. Pregnancy isn't as big of a threat to us VSGers I don't think, which is why I don't think it is stressed as much.
I agree though. I take what I need and leve the rest with a big eye roll, usually.
The Australian link- I signed up and posted but I was hoping they had a pregnancy board and they don't. I think there are still so few of us that a pregnancy VSG board hasn't had a big enough need. I just want some questions answered from BTDT VSGers on things like morning sickness, and that's about it right now.
My other question deals with one of my incision sites that causes me some pain once in a while. I think I have some excess scar tissue at one of the sites and like the other night when I O'd it pulled on the scar tissue in such a manner I was in pain for a good 5 minutes and I still have some residual pain even today, like I worked it over too much. This concerns me for when my belly gets bigger and when it comes time to L&D. I am hoping it won't be a problem but if this one O and a couple of other stretching incidences show it could be then it scares me a little. I birth at home and don't know if I can handle the extra pain of scar tissue on top of the contractions of labor!

I know, it's funny to me... frankly if you're going to get up in arms about something, how about people who aren't more careful - not that I agree, please understand. But why get upset at people who are TTC early - I'm supplementing better than most, basically at goal and have done my research - versus those who had an oops? With oops pregnancies, it's oh well, no biggie, welcome to the club, eat carbs. LOL
I don't get it but hell, their issues aren't my problem. I also think being 1.6 lbs from goal with a belly that still looks like I should be 50lbs heavier is close enough, and I REALLY want to deliver before I'm 35 (end of July 2011) so i decided to start earlier than suggested, knowing the odds weren't exactly great that I'd conceive on the 1st few cycles. I'm also dying to have plastic surgery as I am very uncomfy exercising right now, so getting this over with asap is another reason I don't want to wait. I think delivering after 35 carries bigger risks than getting pregnant now too. Ugh, sorry to preach, I haven't even been flamed but I get annoyed for those who have! LOL
I've seen that calorie range for post ops and normies so it sounds about right. With your other seven did you have a lot of m/s? Yeah, the Aussie site was just one specific thread I found and that was after hours of searching for anything about VSG and PG. It's just too new, and it seems to be favored by those who are done having kids for the most part. The little I've read seems that m/s and other stuff doesn't seem to be better or worse for post ops (all WLS), just like every other pregnancy. I wouldn't worry about puking too much, if I remember correctly you're over 6 months so you should be completely healed (though I hope you don't puke at all!) and for the incision site, that's a great question. I wonder if your OB could answer that, you can't be the 1st to have had abdominal surgery in their practice, even if you are the 1st WLS patient. Though I don't think it would be a major issue come delivery time - at that point it would've already been stretched alot, no? If so, then it might hurt a little more than usual but not much, I would think... (pardon my possible misunderstanding and lack of being pregnant knowledge)
You are brave to labour at home! I'm even more controversial, I have already decided on an elective c-section for various reasons, some medical, some selfish, but not in a million years could I do it at home - I envy those that can, I think it's SO cool!
