Wanted to add............

You and I had surgery the same year. I can HONESTLY say, having surgery 5 years ago, and having surgery today, are 2 whole different ball games. The support, knowledge and research was NOT out there like it is now.

Don't let people make you feel like **** over not having a specific vitamin regimen. I have been a member of OH for almost 5 years but only really started coming on for support within the last year or so. Now there is tons of info about this stuff. When I signed up for OH, there wasn't any of the knowledge and info being passed around like today.

WLS patients now have a plethora of infomation that wasn't available years ago. I can't believe the things I have learned in the last year or two that I never knew when I first had my surgery.

Not to mention, every surgeon, NUT and bariatric nurse in the country has different plans post surgery. And I will even venture to say that most of us learn more from our own research, others' experiences, or asking here, than we ever would from our own office. I know I have.

When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

I definately agree with you. My sister had surgery in Feb 09 and holy hell she got a lot more appointments and paperwork then I ever remember, sleep apnea testing (never even heard of that before Feb) all they did was ask if I had it, I said no and that was the end of it. LOL Hopefully since I am just going to see my surgeon next month after many years I can get a little updated on the "new" stuff. thanks Jo I appreciate your response.

i noticed with being pregnant and my nut told me to take a b12 and calcium citrate with vitamin D and that helped me with feeling blah and tired... but before I was pregnant I had so much energy just from taking 4 flinstones with iron and my blood work was always fine I never had to take extras..

Keep in mind that you were not very far out.

Many of the vitamins are stored for 6-12 months.. some are stored for years.  Flintstones are a stopgap at the very best.. a bandaid at the very least.

I speak from experience.  BAD experience.

I take 2 Centrum Silver every day
An extra 800mcg of folic acid
1500 mg Calcium Citrate(do not take the other calcium...we don't absorb it)
(400 to 600mg at a time since that is all you will absorb...make sure to take with 400mcg of Vit D)
B12 sublingual or injection(if injection 5000mcg)...if sublingual 5000mcg a week
B50 complex
Iron(ferrous fumerate...no other type absorbs as well and take it with Vit C)
DHA 200mg per day
.....get your levels drawn....you may need additional help getting your levels up.

I am sorry you are not feeling well and happy you are now taking action...I had surgery 5 years ago too and my doc was very prescriptive on a few things:

- B12
- Calcium
- Get blood drawn regulary to make sure you do not need more

There has been a lot more open up since then....what I take:

- B12 shots twice a month
- B Multi Complex
- Calcium
- Vit C
- Potassium
- Prenatal
- Folic Acid

I was taking extra iron as I needed it but don't need it anymore...and I get tested every 4 months still 5 years later to check levels.....it is very important and I make it a huge routine everyday....if I could only make exercise the same priority now....

Hang in There and glad you are going back to surgeon....I moved from TX and never found a replacement here in GA...so my PCP is a good source for me....

ok - I have never actually admitted this......

Before I was pregnant I never took viatmins after my RNY (2 years) I know, I know - with Bailey I took them for like 3 months (once again I know, I know) with Bella I was good and took them everyday & had to have an iron supplement. When I get paid on Friday I am going to stock up on prenantals, folic acid & fish oil..... I should probably look for a calcium too.
