Holy crap...
Subject: Vitamin Question
Post Date: 11/18/09 5:46 am
I want to start a vitamin regimen. I haven't actually taken any except for here and there since my RNY in 2004. I know, I know bad girl but I do want to start because I am so exhaustedly tired after 2pm I could fall asleep on my desk.
I was always told multi vitamin, b-12, and calcium. What kind do you take and what are the best time to take them? Anyone find chewables or bilingual better than the actual pill? Anyone get any energy when they actually take them regurally?
Thanks everyone in advance for your advice.
I just wanted to see others vitamin regimen, yikes I honestly didn't know not taking vitamins causes brain damage! I know I'm a sensitive person but sheesh don't have to yell at me
So I trust my good ole friends here on the pregnancy board to let me know their thoughts on the subject.
Each Vitamin will tell you how much you need for your surgery. Since you are RNY, just check out the RNY percentages or doses for each one. Hope this helps.
When life hands you lemons, ask for tequila & salt and give me a call!

Baby 7-09
Xavier Elliott born 10-5-10
2 multivitamins
1800 of elemental calcium citrate (but dont take more than 600 at a time)
You may need other things but to determine in what amounts you need to have blood drawn. Those are:
B-12 and iron
Liquid vitamins work best as they are absorbed easiest. B-12 can be a shot monthly or a subilingual.
Hope that helped some.

No vitamins?? Thats one thing in surgery my doctor is religious about.
I take daily -
1 prenatal
2 folic acid
2 calicum
1 b12
2 iron
1 vit c
Good Luck... how often do you have your labs drawn?? I would suggest calling and asking for them to get drawn.
Where you talking vitamins while pregnant??
Mom to Haleigh born 04/14/10 and Dylan 05/15/12
5000 mcg B12 (mine is chronically low) I take this sublingually
calcium 1200mg
1 prenatal
800 mg folic acid
That's it for me!
Good for you looking to get back on track - it will make you feel better in the long run and probably help with the continued weight loss too!

If you had a heart condition and the Dr. told you that you would need to take medication every day for the rest of your life, would you take it? Would you be casual about taking it and forget? I don't think so.
The vitamins are the same thing. My surgeon told me right from the beginning that I would need to take vitamins every day for the rest of my life. Well here's what happens when you are casual about it. (and I say this because I was a dumb ass for the fist few years and didn't take ANY vitamins or I took them here and there)
1. Your hair will fall out
2. Your nails will break
3. You will feel extreme fatigue
4. You will start to feel short of breath
5. You can end up with osteoporosis
6. You could have a heart attack
1-5 happened to me. I can never repair the damage I did and it was all completely preventable. My mother, who also had gastric bypass (same type, same surgeon, she's a year behind me) didn't take her vitamins either. She developed rickets and had a heart attack and a mini stroke.
Still want to be casual about your vitamins? I'm not saying this to be mean or scream at you, but you need a kick in the ass.
