Folic Acid

Hi Ladies,

I am 13 months post-up (and just shy of 15 pounds to goal... woo hoo) and hoping to get pregnant within the next year.  I know I need to begin taking Folic Acid, but I am wondering about the dosage.  Should I be doubling up at this point - one at night and one in the AM to ensure absorbtion or what?

Thanks
Jenn

I'm interested in hearing about Folic Acid too. Is there enough in our pre-natals? I'm not pregnant but I want to start getting ready....

My prenatal has 100% DMV for Folic Acid, but I have also been taking another 100% (400 mcg) as a seperate supplement, just in case. I plan on continuing that through my first trimester, when all the organs are forming. After that, my Doc said the prenatal should be enough, and of course being post RNY they will check my vit levels frequently, including folic acid.

Those with malabsorption should take enough to get at least 1.6mg per day (which is 2x the recommended dosage for pregnant and ttc'ers per day).

Those of you without malabsorption should be getting 800mcg per day.
