i know after RNY you can't do the glucola drink (my doc is very well aware also) but she mentioned doing a 3 hour test where i would bring something to eat and they would test my sugar then... anyone had to do that???
what are your docs plans for testing or what have you had to do?

thanks. katie

I did that method or something very similar. Went in fasting (try to get the earliest appt or this could be hard) and they took my blood draw. Went out and ate a moderate but heavily carbed breakfast and 2 hours later (give or take a minute or two) they drew my blood again. Then they compare the fasting sugar level to the after eating one. I don't know what my numbers were but my doctor found no need for concern. I have to repeat the test however at 28 weeks just because....I am beginning to wonder though if it would just be easier for me to drink the stupid drink (since I know I do not dump).

I also did the finger sticks with a monitor for 2 weeks, 4 times a day and then my perinatologist reviewed it and shared the results with my OB. Did not even bother with the sugar drink. I do not dump often but when I do it is not good.

I did the regular test with no issues.  It was going to be far harder to fast for part of the day for me.  I don't dump too easily so I just did the regular test.

Hi,

I had the 1 hour glucose tolerance test IV at 18 and 28 weeks.  They drew a fasting blood sugar, gave me the glucose IV and drew blood at 10min and 1 hour.

Good Luck.
