At what time did your doctor say you can get pregnant and be OK? I am scared the birth control wont work and I want to get pregnant but want me and my baby to be healthy. I really wanted to know how long is OK!

AT LEAST 12 months out - most Dr's reccomend 18 months. Double up on your birth control - pills alone will not work for most. Condoms, Nuvaring, IUD's are all more effective.

Good luck!

My dr told me 18 months.  I heard a lot of stories about the pill not working after surgery but that's what I used and it worked fine for me.

12 months minimum to get out of ketosis.  18 months to get you closer to goal (and trust me, this will be better for you, say, 5 years post op ... ... ... ... )

Anything less than 12 months could reduce the effectiveness of your WLS, making your total weight loss less than it could ultimately be...and could make it a more difficult pregnancy.  Chance are good that as long as you stayed out of ketosis, the baby would be fine...but the baby would be sucking all the vitamins and minerals out of your body...so if you weren't able to keep up by eating enough, your body would be paying the price.

Most drs recommend 18-24 months as ideal.

If you had RNY, then I'd suggest a 2nd or alternative bc method...because the RNY could cause malabsorption of the bc pills, increasing the risk of a pregnancy before you're body's ready for it.

Hang out with us here as often as you like...you can study up and learn all life's great answers while you bide your time getting ready to TTC for yourself!  You don't have to be actively TTC or pregnant to participate...and the more you learn now, the more you'll know and be comfortable with your future pregnancy.

Mine told me to abort when I was already pregnant, so, I'm guessing I was too early.

I would suggest two years at least, to make sure you're DONE losing and stable.
