12 - 13 week appt - what to expect?

My OB doesn't do US in the office, they told me no internals until close to the end of the pregnancy - so what do they do in the middle?? Do you think I'll get to hear the heartbeat or is it still too early to hear it on the doppler? I know the usual, weight, vitals etc.

Thanks ladies! I'll upate tonight after the appt.

It'll just be pee in a cup, check bp, weight, ask how your feeling got any questions.  That's pretty much it until you are further along and then its just using the doppler to hear the heartbeat and measuring your belly.  I don't think they would try to use the doppler this early since it can cause unneeded stress if they can't find it with the baby being still small.  I think most start using it around 16 weeks.  By then the baby is big enough to hear.  Most start measuring belly around 20 weeks.  Good luck!

You'll pee in a cup every time you go in.  They'll check your BP and they might try to find the HB with the doppler even though it's early.  They checked for mine at 11 weeks and she would find it for a second and the baby would swim away.  I don't think there's any undue stress in checking for it this early as long as you understand they might not find it and that's not necessarily bad.

Thanks Sarah - I am on a BYOP (bring your own pee) plan! lol They want first morning urine so they give me a cup to take home. Well they were out of cups last time so I have to get one today.

I hope they try! I wouldn't be too worried if they couldn't find it - I know it's early and I have an ultrasound on tuesday so that will confirm that all's still good. I still have all my pregnancy symptoms so I am not worried :)

Hi Liz...wow 13 weeks yay!

Well I just have to share my OB experience. With both girls I NEVER NOT ONCE gave a urine. They would do weight and BP and if that was normal then to the room we go. I heard the heart beat with both at 12 weeks, and had VERY uneventful appointments until birth. I had the first US internal at 6-7 weeks and an 18 week US, and then after that nothing except HB and measuring. My OB does not even check the cervix unless you are over due so I was only checked at my appt when I was two days overdue with Savannah, I was two days early with Nylah so I was NEVER checked.

I guess this just proves how different all OB offices work.

Isn't it crazy how different all the OB's are!

I pee every single time I'm in the office, first thing, no matter what. And another thing that I always get is the cervical exam. He measures that everything is the way it's supposed to be and measures the distance between my pubic bone and my belly button to see that it's on target to where it should be week by week. I get the doppler too, and I own my own, and with both babies I've had since I bought it, I could start hearing the heartbeat consistently around 11 weeks. My office does do the big ultrasounds (non-vaginal ones) so we have an ultrasound at 12 weeks.

Anyway that your appointment goes, I wish you a wonderful one!!!

Hi Liz! Hows the morning sickness coming around?

At my 13 weeks appt they made me pee in a cup first. Then they did some bloodwork along with vitals (bp, weight, etc). I also got a pap smear done to make sure everything was hunky dorry and no infections. Besides that I had one not so normal thing done. I got a dose of the rho gamma shot because I was having some light spotting...so just to be on the safe side. Luckily I have not had any spotting since.

Oh and we tried for the heartbeat on the doppler but no cigar. She caught it for a quick glimpse but thats it....and it was so quick that I missed it.

Hi! morning sickness is almost gone thank god!! How's the food intake coming along?

I had a PAP at my last visit so I am good there! Oh and I'll get my H1N1 shot too and talk about that stuff. I hope that she tries for the heartbeat! Make this appt "worthwhile" lol

SO glad that the spotting stopped too!
