Update and Question

Hey guys,

So I was on bedrest 2wks. Came back to work for 3 days. Started spotting again so was off for 3 more days and came back again on Thurs. Baby still looks good and the heartbeat is strong. Docs say the second round of bleeding was residual from the first issue. Also thinks its possible my bleeding 3 weeks ago could have been a second baby (go figure) that isn't there now because they are puzzled that this baby looks so good with the blood loss so they are going with the second sac which is gone was the bleeding line of reasoning.

Anyway, docs say I would bleed for a while (its been a full week and still spotting - they still aren't overly concerned because of the amount and -TMI- color is dark brown which they say is old blood so they don't think me or the baby is in immediate danger.

Saturday for the first time in all this, I started to have pain in my left lower abdominal area. It is sharp and then goes to dull. I thought it might be my bladder but I called anyway and they said to take tylenol and come in if it doesn't stop. It got better with tylenol but it comes back when I stop taking the tylenol. I don't want to stay on the med, but the pain gets pretty intense. The bleeding hasn't worsened and no other symptoms. I feel like my doctors office and labor & delivery has me on psycho mom watch because I call almost everyday. I know some pain must be normal but because this is my first and I've had so much tragedy, I am not sure if this is normal pain or somethings wrong, lady do something pain...any wisdom? Sorry for the long rant...

Hey Chavon..I am glad you and your baby are doing good.  I'm a first time mommy too...and every little thing makes me want to call the office...I did at first, and then I felt like a psycho mom too, so now I just don't know and just wait it out...and it usually goes away.  I too had the spotting, they never could figure out why...it went away after about a 1 week and half.  Everything freaks me out about this pregnancy.  I thought when I got to the second trimester I would relax...now I'm convinced I won't fully relax until the baby is born...and then...I'm sure I'll have a million questions too.

Nobody told me that pregnancy would feel like I have the flu...and aches and pains in weird places.  I get the pains...and I'm told...aww..its just Round Ligament Pain...the baby growing.  I get weird sensations even doctors can't figure out..."that is just how your pregnancy will go".  Great.

None of this probably helped or answered your questions...but I just wanted you to know...you aren't alone...and we have around the same due date, I think!

Anne -

I think you must be my pregnancy twin.  I'm just one day behind you.  I could have written this post myself.  I'm the same way.

I also read your other post about wondering if you could be feeling things since you're still a little bigger...me too.  I haven't really felt anything but I wonder about it since I still have some chunk.  I'm worried about them finding the heartbeat with the doppler tomorrow because of said chunk.

Sheesh...I will never relax either...

Thanks for your post. It does help that I'm not going psycho, at least not alone So I just wanted to say that its hard to relax when you are worried so much. Everyone said the second trimester will be easier, I thought that started at 12 weeks? I should be getting there soon.

Anyway, yes, I am 14 days behind you, so it could happen anywhere in there! Maybe we can encourage each other to relax and try to enjoy the next 6 months?

Chavon -

I've had a similar pain in my lower left abdomen since Friday.  My RE told me at my 12 week ultrasound that I had a cyst but he said he wasn't worried about it so I kind of forgot about it.

Now I'm wondering if it might be growing or somehow causing the pain.  It hasn't been excruciating and has subsided quite a bit since Friday.  Since I already have an appointment tomorrow, I've opted not to call and just bring it up there.  If I didn't already have that appointment, I would have called.

I wouldn't worry about what the doc's office or LD think of you.  I bet they are used to it.  I'm sure they prefer patients who call to ones who ignore symptoms and let them grow into a bigger problem.

Thanks Sarah,

Like I said its good to know that others have similar experiences. I try not to feel bad about calling but when the doctor gets on the line "Hi Mrs. _____" you start to wonder what they think.

When I did a previous ultrasound they said I had fibroids but they were insignificant. I wonder if they have become significant overnight...My next appt. isn't until the 17th I don't think I will stay in pain that long if it doesn't go away. Truthfully, the tylenol doesn't work that well with the pain.

It sounds like a normal pregnancy pain, but I have no idea.

It's okay to be concerned, it's okay to call, and I think you're okay :-).  I had bleeding with my first pregnancy.  I have fibroids too but they didn't seem to cause problems during the pregnancy.  I had sharp pains, dull pains, twisting pains, pulling pains, just plain weird pains.  Every time, I would inquire and they would reassure me and tell me what they thought it was this time (adhesions, round ligament pain, etc.)  They would rather you ask and be reassured than worry needlessly.  You'll very soon reach the blessed 13-week milestone!  Hang in there.

Thanks for the encouragement. I thought that sharp pains meant bad...tragedy or something like that. It is good to hear that they are par for the course. I am actually getting a little use to the pain in that when I massage the area it lets up, so I'm thinking you ladies are right and that it is Round Ligament Pain...Anyway thanks for the feedback.

You are not alone in the pycho department LOL I knew all the nurses by their first names while I was pregnant. It does sound like normal ligament pain, but if you are concerned don't hesitate to call them! Good luck!
