Lap Band and Pregnancy
Hi everyone, I am 2 yrs out from having my surgery (oct '07) and I am 23 weeks pregnant with my first baby. I've had a relatively easy going pregnancy just dealt with morning sickness, bad cold, and a kidney infection. The baby was completely fine during all that. Anyways, I'm just looking for any advice or experiences anyone who's had a band could give... Oh and I will be having a c-section due to a cyst on one of my ovaries that HAS to come out... kill two birds with one stone... I guess
Thanks,
Michelle
Thanks,
Michelle
Michelle,
Congrats on your pregnancy! Do you know what you are having? I'm 26 weeks pregnant with my second band baby. The only advice I have is make sure your band is loose enough to be able to take the pain meds after the c-section or ask for the liquid kind. Also stool softeners are wonderful things (if pain meds give you that problem).

Thanks, I am having a girl! I had my surgeon empty my band completely when I was about eight weeks. I'm really glad I did because as I grow it feels like its getting a little tighter. I'm still eating prefectly fine and all my vitamin levels are great, but I have to eat small meals throughtout the day... just like with the band. What are you having?
Thanks for the advice!

Hi Congratulations!! Very exciting
I had my band for 2 years before I got pregnant (first pregnancy). All was fine. I was lucky no morning sickness etc. My band was working at the time I got pregnant, and I could eat enough while pregnant. I worked out well I think because I was still unable to over eat. gained about 15 pounds the entire pregnancy (most of that was at the end).
For some reason my band is very sensitive to my hormones. I know other like this as well. When I was pregnant I could eat ok. After I had the baby I could eat everything. I went to get fills and either they would do nothing for me or it would be so tight I couldn't swallow my own saliva. I sure hope this doesn't happen to you. Before I was pregnant my band was great, now nada. Childbirth was such a wonderful experience. Congratulations again and enjoy the ride , you will treasure it always.

Hi, I got pregnant 18 months after my surgery. My son will be 2 months on Christmas. I had a healthy pregnancy. I had to get my band loosened going into my fourth month because I was hardly able to get food down after that I felt much better but rapidly gained weight during the sixth through 8th month. I believe I gained 47lbs but dropped twenty lbs. write after my son was born. I was told by my doctor ob/gyn to wait about 3 months before getting a fill because of breastfeeding and to see if my body would go back to where I started prior to pregnancy. At eighteen months I was 30lbs away from my weight loss goal. I had been diagnosed with PCOS at nineteen. I am so excited and thankful for the help of the tool. I look forward to beginning new regimen when I receive my fill...but I am very concerned about breastfeeding. Can anyone share their success with breastfeeding and/or experiences with weight loss once they were refilled? What has your experience been with the band after pregnancy?
