I tested heterozygous for MTHFR C677T mutation as well as A1298C mutation... Because of that they put me on the Folic Acid.

Reccomended:
Early 1hr GTT is suggested at 14 weeks...
B6, B12, Folate, Iron and TIBC performed each trimester given the RNY
I should lso take 4mg of folic acid daily as the MTHFR has been linked in many eries with increased risk of miscarriage
Patients with MTHFR may benefit fro serial ultrasounds of interval grownt ssesment
Anternatal testing initating between 32 and 36 weeks is suggested as well as serial interval grownt assesment...

They said otherwise I should have routine prenatal care.

All that was directly off the letter sent from the doctors office to me, as well as my regular OB and to my PCP.... Unfortunetly I can not call for explanations till monday because the letter came to me on a FRIDAY grr...

So calling all well educated informed ladies, can you decode any of this?  I have done some research and it looks like the folic acid should take care of the two clotting mutations?

I plan like I said to call the dr monday but I was curious if you had any insight!
Thanks as always
-Amanda

Are you going to take the glucose test (I'm pretty sure that's what GTT is)?  I know a lot of RNY'ers don't.   I have the band and I feel pretty rough after mine (which I failed the one hour today).
Let us know what you find out when you talk to the Dr.

I will talk to the OB about it, yeah I still dump, so it would be seriously unpleasant but I will do what they tell me to with minimal complaints...

I did a fasting blood sugar test. No sugar drink for me I just refused it and told them why so they just took mine twice each time after fasting all night and everything was fine. :)

I recently tested positive for heterozygous MTHFR as well.  My OB is having me take 4mg of Folic acid and a baby aspirin every day now, and as soon as I get pregnant I'll have to give myself daily shots of Lovenox until week 36 and then switch to Heparin.  They feel pretty confident that this will allow me to have a successful pregnancy, and I've actually heard from a few other women that have had this same mutation and carried babies to term following similar protocols.

I don't have any insight on the second mutation, but wish you well and am glad you were able to find out some information that will hopefully help out.

Good luck!

Debbi

I have 2 blood clotting disorders also. I have Factor V Lieden and low protein S. SO at 13 weeks I started daily lovenox shots and then at 30 weeks they switched me to heparin twice a day till they induce me in a week or so. They have to stop the heparin before labor cause it will prevent me from getting an epidural and you never know if you may need a c section and all so they said the prevent issues I need to be induced so they can take me off the thinners and also to give some kind of shot to help to start clotting. So its been good so far. Baby seems fine. This is my 7th pregnancy and only have my 2 boys. I know how hard it can be thats for sure.

I am just cheking in kind of quick tonight but I sure hope everything goes very well this time for you. I am praying for you and baby right now. :)
