I was back at the hospital tonight with spotting and they did an ultrasound to measure my cervix the doctor said that it was at a 2 and he just looked it up on the Internet and that 2-3 seemed normal  in the length department.  Being that he did not know himself made me nervous. Also he said there was some loose mucus above my cervix and I should call my doctor on Monday and talk to them. So does anyone have any insight?

Thank you,
Emily

I don't have any insight for you.  I'm sorry.  Hopefully your doctor can shed some light on this for you Monday.  Too  bad it is the weekend and you have to wait that long.  Try to take it easy the next few days.

I'm in my OB class right now.  Mucus on your cervix is normal.  It's there to keep microbes out of your uterus.  "At a 2" is what has me confused.  If an OB said that a patient was "at a 2" that would mean to me that they were 2cm dilated.  But as far as length goes, yes, that's normal.  What was your baby's heart rate?  Did they do any other testing?

they would like to see it over 2.... did he say it was changing?... at 22 weeks they can measure again and it will tell them how likley you are to go into preterm labor... and loose mucus? i dont remember if your plus is below or above your cervix.. but i know at this point in pregnancy it will grow back

Thank you so much. He just said the length was at a 2 and he looked it up in the interent and that was the normal range. I am still having some light spotting and I am just going to stay off my feet. The U/S tech said the baby looked good but was breech and his/her little feet where kicking my cervix. I am glad to hear it can go back.

Emily,

Honestly - I don't know what any of that means - I just wanted you to know that you and your little one are in my thoughts and I hope everything works out. Take it easy, stay off your feet and just be good to yourself for as long as you need to keep baking!

Keep us posted,
Cathie

I just had mine checked cause I have a history of preterm labor. How far along are you?

All I know is that at the time of my appt last week I was 33 weeks and my cervix was a 4.8, the sono tech said that at 33 weeks they like to see 2.5 or greater. That's all I know about length.

BUT when your cervix softens as you get closer to your due date your discharge changes from the pregnancy sticky white to a more egg white stretchy. The first time I had a baby I went from the 1st stage to the 2nd in a week - this time I've been transitioning for about 2 1/2 weeks with my discharge being somewhere in between. If you have blood in it or wipe and it's pink you need to limit your activity and call your Dr right away.

Thank you for your reply I am 18 weeks. I did call my doctor and it was a new doctor on call and she was so rude, that is why I ended up in the ER. I am calling the office tomorrow.  I have been with them for ten years and this is my 5th pregnancy with them and for the first time I really do not want to call or deal with them. I know I have to so I will. I am praying I get worked in to seeing one of the doctors that I completely trust. I am just a little frustrated.
