Should my husband go out of town at 37 weeks?
My husband has a show (he's a drummer in a band) on 12/7 and at that time I will be 37 weeks along and considered full term. We were going to wait and see how I feel and if I still feel good w/ no action like I do now he was going to go to the show and drive separately and then drive back right after the show. The problem is the show is about 5 hrs from home. I told my mom that we were considering this and she flipped out! She now thinks that Matt isn't taking this pregnancy seriously and that the band comes before me and our baby which is sooooo far from the truth! We made this decision together. But then she told me that she went into labor with me and 3 hrs later I was born - and I was her first! The same happened w/ her sister. So now I'm freaked out because what if I did happen to go into labor at 37 weeks with Matt 5 hrs from home and the baby just shoots out in no time at all and Matt misses the whole thing?! That would kill us both!! I just wanted to see what you guys would do in this case. Thanks!!

If he's only going to be gone for a day and then drive right back after the show, I don't see a problem! Do you have someone else you could call if you do go into labor that could help you, just in case your hubby isn't there? Now if he was going to be gone for a week or something or even a few days, then I'd probably have a problem if I were you. I think it's fine though. JMO
I'd wait and see how you feel a few days before the show. I am with the previous poster that if he is driving up for the show and coming back the same day (or even the next day) I would say go for it. I am sure that you'll have more warning then your Mom did.

Personally, I think it would be fine. The chances of you going into labor right when he's at his gig and you having the baby before he has a chance to come back are slim, possible, but slim. Now if you're having some contractions the day of or day before his gig, then maybe he should stay. That would be what I'd do.
Yeah I think you are all right! The odds are sooo slim that I would have zero indication of going into labor when he left and then having the baby before he had the chance to get back all at 37 weeks when most babies come closer to 38-42 weeks. We're just going to plan on him going to the show and see how I feel and also see what the OB has to say because by then I would hope they would do a cervex check also to give us some a better idea as well.
Thank you for the advice!

I would wait and see how your cervix is then. Mostly how you are feeling overall at that time. My hubby is out of town 4-5 days a week and he came home 1 day prior to my induction. My induction went on for almost 3 days and it was horrible, so he went back home (2 hours from hospital) i had to frantically call him, as well as all our neighbors at 4 am to get him back to the hospital.............he made it there about 15 minutes prior to my little girl being born.
Do you have friends or family close by just in case?

The decision is yours and hubbies, so don't let mom get you down about it. My hubby just recently went to a USC football game and was gone from about noon to 10pm. If I went into labor it would take him about 2 hours to get to the hospital from the stadium. But, he is such a good guy and really loves his games. I just wanted him to go and relax. Even when my water broke with Emma I was in labor for 26 hours. I think your mom is a pretty rare exception. I mean I hope when hubby is home you have that short of a labor...but first timers usually take awhile. I say let him go...as long as you both realize there is a small chance he would be late and miss the birth. If it really isn't something you can live with then ask him to stay. Good luck. Shari
I don't know.
my dh is in the army and when they say go, they go. as of now he is scheduled to be gone for the first week of December and not just 5 hours away...he'll be across the country for at least 3-5 days. I'm due 12/19 and have a csection scheduled on 12/14.
good luck no matter what you two decide. I'm hoping they cancel dh's trip but with the army...anything goes.
