Pregnancy and C-sections after WLS?
Hi. I'm Mommy to 3 little boys! All of my little ones are young as am I. They are 3 months, 2 years and 3 years and I am 21 years. I am 237 pounds with a 5 foot 1" frame with a BMI of about 45. I have had two bikini line incisions and one classical Cesarean Section incision. The classical was done with my 3 month old who came out 10 pounds 11.6 ounces and 23 inches long. My question is: If I plan on trying at least once, maybe two times more for a little girl and I'm almost certain that they both would have to be Cesarean, should I wait to have WLS or even to try yet again to lose weight? I I have WLS, can I get pregnant again and is it safe to have C-sections? Obviously no matter what, my cosmetic surgeries would wait until I'm done with having kids.Right? I'm a little behind on my information, I guess. Any good advice or experiences to share?
It kind of depends on how long you want to wait to have more children. Once you have WLS you should wait 12-18 months before getting pregnant so if you are ok with that waiting period then I would pursue the WLS first. It will be very possible for you to have children after WLS and is also very safe (if you wait the recommended time) you will just need to keep an eye on your levels and take some extra vitamins. Your pregnancies will probably be more enjoyable and easier because you will be a lot smaller.

I also considered waiting to finish the family, but I decided against it for several reasons. One was that pregnancy is safe after surgery- This board is excellent proof of that. I specifically asked the surgeon about it too at the informational meetings. As long as you wait the recommended time by your surgeon, you'll be fine getting pregnant, at least from a WLS standpoint. Also, I decided that since, at the time, I had insurance that would cover it, and things were just beginning to tank in the economy at that point, that I would go ahead and do it. I don't regret it. I am only 8 weeks pregnant now, so I can't compare much yet between pre and post pregnancies, but I imagine it will be safer and easier! Good luck!
