just a question...
do you get to heart the heartbeat at regualr ob appointments even without an ultrasound...this being pregnant thing is so new to me.
I won't be able to see my little one until 11/17 on ultrasound but I go to the OB tomorrow- will I be able to hear the heart beat there? I just want to know its there and all is well....
and I figured I would ask here first since I would sound like a dummy calling the ob and asking them...

You should deff be able to see the heartbeat on your ultrasound, but you wont be able to hear the heartbeat until about 12 weeks. It sucks not knowing what is going on in there, but the assumption with the Dr.'s are that everything is OK unless you're bleeding/cramping.
Good luck tomorrow, ask them as many questions as you need

I did hear the heartbeat at 6 weeks 3 days...loud and clear....but just wasn't sure how you can hear the heartbeat without the ultrasound since they did both together for me last time

O ok got it, didn't know you had a previous ultra sound. You wont be able to hear it at this point without the ultrasound. They do it with a Doppler at around 12 weeks.

They can use a doppler which will pick up at about 12 weeks. Mostly likely before then they probably won't be able to pick up without v-u/s. Even at 12 weeks they tell you it is very hard to pick up. At my 12 weeks they picked it up but couldn't keep it enough to tell me how much it was beating, but at 14 weeks, they could at a steady rate.
Good luck! Stacey

At the OB appts they can use a doppler to hear the heartbeat. However, you have to be at least 12 weeks for most OBs to even attempt to hear it. At my 12 week appt, my OB only found it for a sec and then couldn't again.
The best bet to hear it again would be at an ultrasound. But at my OBs office they don't let you hear it just see it with u/s. They say if you can see it there is no need to emit extra radiation just to hear it. So I still have never heard my lil ones heartbeat. My next appt is the day before Thanksgiving and I am dying waiting. Thats when I find out the gender and hear the heartbeat for the first time. *sigh*
Hope your appt goes well!
